‘Don’t mind.’ The ‘Don’t minds’ carried the day.<br />
Mrs B then said that at any rate she was leaving, and left the<br />
room without making eye contact with anyone. After her departure,<br />
there was another long silence, punctured by the ringing of the ward<br />
telephone. This proved to be the ward sister’s cue to leave the group.<br />
Despite the trickle from the group I held steadfastly to the<br />
time boundary. The group ended on time, not with a bang but with a<br />
whimper. Mine.<br />
Two years later I began my training at the Institute of <strong>Group</strong><br />
Analysis in London.<br />
