Berlin Symposium Report of the Scientific<br />
Committee (SC) Co-Chairs<br />

The tasks<br />
It was a great honour to co-chair this committee and we learnt a great<br />
deal. The tasks have not been written down before, so we would like<br />
to share our understanding of the job for the future.<br />
Purpose<br />
a. To select Keynote Speakers; Respondents and Chairs;<br />
b. Advertise for Colleagues to submit Abstracts of material they wish<br />
to present;<br />
i. content should be in line with Symposium Theme;<br />
ii. length and format should be described;<br />
iii. language in which written be set by Symposium – usually<br />
English but may change if symposium bi-lingual;<br />
c. Select Social Dreaming, Small <strong>Group</strong> and Median <strong>Group</strong><br />
Conductors - all should be experienced group analysts;<br />
d. Select special Sub-Plenary Themes and invite experienced<br />
colleagues to convene over 4/3/2 days. Most Sub-Plenary convenors<br />
felt that 4 days was too long so should be limited to 2 or 3 days;<br />
e. Select Chairs for each element of the programme.<br />
Membership of the SC<br />
a. Chairs - GASI Scientific Chair together with locally selected Chair.<br />
(Berlin 2017: Sue Einhorn, Katrin Stumptner);<br />
b. Plus 6 members representing other member countries of GASI.<br />
Berlin 2017: Italy - Marco Longo; Norway - Kjersti Solberg-Lyngstad;<br />
Denmark - Kristian Valbak; Ukraine -Jurko Prochasko; Germany -<br />
Angela Schmidt-Bernhard, Regine Scholz, Hanna Reinhardt-Bork;<br />
Kurt Husemann was on the SC as Chair of the Local Organising<br />
Committee and acted as a link between us. Robi Friedman was on the<br />
SC as President of GASi and was also a link with the LOC. Marina<br />
Mojovic as a link between the international GA-Institutes and Marita<br />
Barthel-Rösing as a link between the German speaking GA-Institutes<br />
and the SC.<br />
c. Members need to be given a clear brief about the amount of work it<br />
entails as it may be too much for some and they could suggest others<br />
from their country. It is about 10 hours over two years plus 2 visits to
