SIDELIGHTS ON VETERANS' REUNION I Was it hot? Ask anybody who was there. But the progranls made the veterans forget about the heat. W. L. Heath, retiring president of the veterans' association, claims a unique distinction. He retired twice in one month. Once from active service as conductor, aud the second time from the presidenry of the veterans' association. "Mother" Clark was present, as jolly as ever, but "Daddy" Clark was unable to attend. He is, however, enjoying very good health. Those Pew who do not know this lovable couple, they are Nr. and Mrs. John Clark of Kansas City. Mr. Clark is a peu- sioned crossing watchman. And here's a bit of news. John Kinnear, from Kansas City, and an engineer with 43 years' service, says he ha# never had his name in the M~g~~i)rc. This was his first reunion and nl;iybe that explains it. P. C. Allen, a contractor, who helped to build the old Frisco, attended the reunion and met many of his old friends. He "chummed" around most of the two days with Andy Schwarzenbach, retired engineer of Thayer, Mo., and said lie had never had such a glorious two days of fellowship. And speaking of names, Andy Schwarzenbach says of all the veterans' names, his is the longest. ilI1.s. Jeannette D. Tanquary was there again. She comes each year from Sail Diego, Calif., to meet and greet old friends, who always look for her. She is a pensioi~ed agent, with 29 years' service. E. A. Thomas, supply car foreman OK Springfield, and H. S. Ostegard, pensioned mechanic of Springfield, have never missed a reunion. They were not the only "perfect-record" men, but they were among those most proud of that distinction. J. F. Prewitt, a conductor with 30 years' service, residing at Amory, Miss., proudly displaying a check for 20 cents which he had received as pay on April 1, 1901, from the old Kansas City, Ft. Scott and Meniphis Rail- road. C. B. Coleman, retired engineer from Rogers, Ark., with 51 years' service to his credit, should take the prize for being one of the "youngest" looking veterans present. Mrs. Cole- man, charming and lovely, enjoyed both days, taking part in the auxiliary meetings and socials. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Ti'. Vielbig, engineer and wife from Kansas City. Mo., remember the very first reunion at Sequiota Park in Springfield. He remembers it particularly, because he got the prize as being the best looking veterans there. That's some- thing for anybody to remember! Lots of new veterans at this reunion and they were given a hearty welcome. Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Collier of Chaffee, engineer and wife, attended for the first time, but said it won't 1)e the last. C. J. Wright, pensioned brakeman of St. Louis, reported a recent visit with Sam Hughes at Albuquerque, N. M. Mr. Hughes will be remembered by his many friends on Frisco Lines as having had a most active part in the Liberty Loan Drives and in the Industrial Department of Frisoo Lines. Mr. Hughes is enjoying good health and sent his regards to all the veterans. - Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Newton visited the entire two days with friends at the reunion and enjoyed each event. Mr. Newton was formerly general au- ditor of Frisco Lines at St. Louis and was retired with a service record of 54 years to his credit. Another fifty-one year service engineer who attended the reunion was Mr. C. W. Shank of St. Louis. Mrs. Shank was with him. Mr. J. E. Woodward, B. & TL foreman from Golden City, Mo., with 43 years' service, had in his possession an old time card printed in the 1800's. when Oklahoma was Indian Territory and the Frisco ran to Pacific. G. W. Greener, of Springfield, Mo., was one of the few telegraphers at the reunion. He met many of the en- gineers and conductors to whom he had issued orders and had a regular good time at the picnic. Messrs. L. E. Martin, assistant to the president, and W. D.
