Soaring to the rank of Eagle
Achieving the rank of Eagle Scout with
the Boy Scouts of America takes time and
dedication. Yet, three Parkway South High
graduates did just that.
Luke Hoeferkamp, Douglas Koury and
Will Nolte are with Troop 787, sponsored
by Carman Trails Elementary. They held
their Eagle Court of Honor at Manchester
United Methodist with Master of Ceremonies
Nelson Bay and guest speaker Chris
Mohler.
Mayor Mike Clement spoke at the ceremony
as a special guest of the families.
For Hoeferkamp’s Eagle project, he
designed and built six benches for outdoor
classroom use at his alma mater
Parkway South Middle. Koury designed
and constructed a food box for the
Endangered Wolf Center, which will
be used for the storage of cleaning and
feeding supplies. Nolte designed and
built musical playground equipment for
preschool students at Manchester United
Methodist Church.
The three Eagle Scouts are lifelong
friends, having joined Cub Scouts together
in first grade.
Parkway North grad enjoys
successful theater career
As a 6-year-old girl, former Creve Coeur
resident Kaitlyn Mayse watched her first
musical, “West Side Story.” At the time,
she didn’t know that she would go on to
pursue theater as a career, but she did know
that she loved it and wanted to be a part of
the action.
Throughout her youth, Mayse performed
in various productions with Union Avenue
Opera Theater, Opera Theater of St. Louis
and The Muny. Once she entered high
school at Parkway North High, she became
involved in the theater program there.
Mayse also had roles in productions with
COCA and Dayspring Theater, where her
experience served as the foundation for her
strong passion for theater and encouraged
her to further pursue it.
After graduating high school, Mayse
went on to Indiana University where she
earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in
musical theater. During her college years,
she studied under instructors who helped
her grow in her singing, acting and dancing,
as well as participate in shows that gave
her the opportunity to develop her niche
for fairy tale musicals, such as her role of
Rapunzel in “Into the Woods.” Mayse also
became more involved in regional theater
in Bloomington, Indiana, and in St. Louis.
She starred as Belle in “Beauty and the
Beast” with Variety St. Louis and Greta
in “Greta” with Bloomington Playwright’s
Project.
She earned her BFA in 2016 and headed
to New York City to audition for shows.
She landed her first role in NYC in the
off-Broadway show, “The Thalia Festival.”
Quickly after that, Mayse was cast as an
ensemble member, woodland creature and
understudy of Elle in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s
“Cinderella” in the 2017-2018
traveling musical. In December of 2017,
“Cinderella” came to the Fox Theater and
Mayse was able to perform on the same
stage that sparked her love for performing.
After many performances throughout the
nine-month tour, Mayse was offered the
lead role of Elle for the 2018-2019 season.
Her training and dreaming has paid off, as
she will now be touring the nation doing
what she loves.
