With a first album issued in 1994, ANGRA showed the whole world that Brazil was able to create something else than Samba, as far as music is concerned. A lot
less extreme than their colleagues of SEPULTURA, Andre MATOS and his friends were quite quick to get themselves a nice seat in the overcrowded category of
Symphonic heavy-Metal. The originality is here the occasional use of Latin percussions and the things taken from traditional Brazilian tunes: just listen to the piano riff
on the eponymous track from "Holy Land" (1996), an album that remains, up to now, the best work of ANGRA. Then "Firewords" was released in 1998, before their
split-up a few months later.

ANTHEMON
ANTHEMON is a French heavy-metal band, to be watched closely. In the wake of THE GATHERING, the quintet particularly likes gothic atmospheres, and operatic
female vocals mixed with male death-metal grunts. "Talvi" (2000) delivers a great ambient heavy metal, from epic pieces a la DREAM THEATER to WITHIN
TEMPTATION-like keyboards parts. ANTHEMON's real first album is entitled "Arcanes" (2003), and was published on the Thundering label. Aiming at producing
great symphonic doom-metal, the musicians are now moving from the gothic influences of their previous works. You'll need time to find out the essence of this
masterpiece, and that's what makes it so interesting. Even though the contrast between heavy guitars and female vocals can remind you of NIGHTWISH, the dark
atmospheres are rather close to EMPYRIUM or the other stars of the genre on slow tracks. Never falling into pompous mellow stuff, the musicians even dare to
include background elements that bring even more depth to already thick songs. Not to be missed !

ANTHROPIA is a young band formed in 2003 and based in Nice (France). The second album is another concept one, named "The Chain Reaction" (2008). It is in
keep with the musical direction of the first opus, with an excellent mix of heavy-metal, Progressive rock, power-metal and melodic heavy-metal. The atmosphere is
modern, with touches of science-fiction and biblical elements. "The Chain Reaction" was recorded in Nice at the studio Artmusic and was mixed by François MERLE,
guitarist of the band MANIGANCE. Kevin CODFERT, ADAGIO's skilful keyboards player, appears here as a guest. The mastering was made by Tommy HANSEN
(HELLOWEEN...) in his personal studio Jail House in Denmark.
