the primary job of professional golfers;<br />

however, Borchert is a PGA club<br />

professional, and his day job responsibilities<br />

are vastly different than a<br />

PGA Tour player’s. His duties consist<br />

of teaching lessons, managing a golf<br />

shop operation, overseeing member<br />

programs and executing player development<br />

programs, among other<br />

professional duties.<br />

More than 18,000 fans gathered<br />

to watch 30 mascots from the MLB,<br />

NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA and Arena<br />

Football League teams compete in<br />

two days of gladiatorial games for<br />

the 25th anniversary of the Mascot<br />

Games. All proceeds from the event<br />

benefited New Hope for Kids, a<br />

nonprofit organization devoted to<br />

supporting children and families<br />

grieving the death of a loved one<br />

and granting wishes to children with<br />

life-threatening illnesses.<br />

The annual Mascot Games private<br />

reception was held at the Hilton<br />

Orlando/Altamonte Springs the day<br />

before the games began. During the<br />

event, all of the competing mascots<br />

were introduced and showcased.<br />

competition with a total of 140 points.<br />

The Firestorm FC soccer<br />

league, a not-for-profit, coed, recreational<br />

league in Winter Garden,<br />

is open for registration for its 2018<br />

fall season. This will be the league’s<br />

third season. It was founded in 2017<br />

by current and former coaches of<br />

the city of Winter Garden’s soccer<br />

teams, whose own children had<br />

aged-out of that league and wouldn’t<br />

have been able to continue playing<br />

recreational soccer.<br />

Practices begin in mid-August and<br />

will be held once per week. The day<br />

and time will depend on the coach.<br />

Games are held Saturday mornings,<br />

and all practices and games are at<br />

Calvary Baptist Church on Dillard<br />

Street in Winter Garden.<br />

Registration fees are $60 for returning<br />

players not needing a new<br />

uniform, $90 for returning players<br />

switching teams or in need of a new<br />

uniform, and $100 for new players<br />

(includes the cost of a uniform).<br />

Registration ends July 31.<br />
