The boat has all
the amenities,
services and
security for an
unforgettable ride.
from local vendors. In some way or another, these
excursions benefit the local economy and propel it in a
way that would not exist otherwise.
Do you have an agreement with the Reserve?
Cliver: In order to operate within the Pacaya Samiria
Reserve we have to become conservation allies on a
tourism project approved by SENARP (National Service
of Natural Areas Protected by the State). Our project has
been approved for a period of five years, and is renewable.
This way, we constantly contribute to the Reserve, whether
it be through entrance-fees collected from passengers, or
through the support we offer to the communities. But
over all, our formality as a company is the most important
factor in being able to operate that route.
And with the communities?
Cesar: We try to use the local work force, which has
not been the most well trained in these last years. Jobs
like these give people a chance to receive the proper
preparation and understand the high-standards
the industry requires. It is about encouraging their
professional growth by taking them a bit outside of their
local surroundings and exposing them to internationalcalibre
product. That is part of our social contribution
Cliver: In respect to the native communities, the visiting
passengers almost always purchase local handicrafts
directly from community members. Thus, the people
Pacaya Samiria is a paradise for
birdwatching. The guides on the excursions
have binoculars to facilitate the activity.
