This video-based course aims to provide tips on useful preoperative, operative
and postoperative manoeuvres in the management of difficult cataracts.
COURSE OUTLINE
On Day 1: Presentations will focus on the management of cataract in the
presence of:
• Soft Cataract
• White Cataract
• Brunescent Cataract
• Posterior Polar Cataract
• Small Pupil
• Phaco Chop Techniques
• Phaco in High Myopia
• Biometry in Difficult Eyes
Including an exciting live surgery session and a video discussion focusing on the
management of posterior capsule rupture and surgical manoeuvres to optimise
post-surgical outcomes.
On Day 2: There will be a special hands-on wetlab session which will include some
simulations of posterior capsule rupture and management techniques.
We will be using the award-winning KITARO wetlab system where different
grades of nuclear hardness will be available for phacoemulsification and realistic
capsulorhexis is possible.

This course comprises of 3 modules of didactic teaching and half a day of
wetlab hands-on module. The main objectives of this course are to educate the
participants on the planning for LASIK and how to perform LASIK safely and to
transfer the theory and skills necessary for the competent and safe performance
of Femtosecond LASIK. The course modules are:
COURSE OUTLINE
Module 1: LASIK Essentials for the
Beginning LASIK Surgeon
This half day didactic programme
covers the theory, application and
surgical logistics of LASIK surgery.
Practical pointers on the safe
conduct of LASIK will be highlighted.
Module 2: LASIK Clnical Case
Scenarios,
Complications
and Challenging Cases
The main objectives of this half day
module are to illustrate difficult
and complicated LASIK cases and
highlight the management of LASIK
complications. There will be case
discussions on how to manage
difficult LASIK cases and video
presentations on the management of
intra-operative LASIK complications.
Wet Lab Module
This is a half day wetlab programme
on the use of the AMO Intralase
Femtosecond laser, Zeiss Visumax
Femtosecond laser, Ziemer
Femtosecond laser and the Alcon
EX500 Excimer laser platforms.
Participants will be able to discuss
practical pointers with experienced
LASIK surgeons and the industry
representatives.
Participants will be required to
attend all 4 modules to obtain the
full LASIK accreditation by SNEC and
the various companies.
Accredited and experienced LASIK
surgeons may benefit by attending
modules 2 and 3.

in LASIK technology and Refractive
Surgery

This is a half day didactic
session to review recent advances in
refractive surgery and alternatives
to LASIK, e.g. Refractive Lenticule
Extraction (ReLEx), advanced surface
ablations etc. Participants will also learn
about new LASIK technologies.
