This video-based course aims to provide tips on useful preoperative, operative<br />

and postoperative manoeuvres in the management of difficult cataracts.<br />

COURSE OUTLINE<br />

On Day 1: Presentations will focus on the management of cataract in the<br />

presence of:<br />

• Soft Cataract<br />

• White Cataract<br />

• Brunescent Cataract<br />

• Posterior Polar Cataract<br />

• Small Pupil<br />

• Phaco Chop Techniques<br />

• Phaco in High Myopia<br />

• Biometry in Difficult Eyes<br />

Including an exciting live surgery session and a video discussion focusing on the<br />

management of posterior capsule rupture and surgical manoeuvres to optimise<br />

post-surgical outcomes.<br />

On Day 2: There will be a special hands-on wetlab session which will include some<br />

simulations of posterior capsule rupture and management techniques.<br />

We will be using the award-winning KITARO wetlab system where different<br />

grades of nuclear hardness will be available for phacoemulsification and realistic<br />

capsulorhexis is possible.<br />

This course comprises of 3 modules of didactic teaching and half a day of<br />

wetlab hands-on module. The main objectives of this course are to educate the<br />

participants on the planning for LASIK and how to perform LASIK safely and to<br />

transfer the theory and skills necessary for the competent and safe performance<br />

of Femtosecond LASIK. The course modules are:<br />

COURSE OUTLINE<br />

Module 1: LASIK Essentials for the<br />

Beginning LASIK Surgeon<br />

This half day didactic programme<br />

covers the theory, application and<br />

surgical logistics of LASIK surgery.<br />

Practical pointers on the safe<br />

conduct of LASIK will be highlighted.<br />

Module 2: LASIK Clnical Case<br />

Scenarios,<br />

Complications<br />

and Challenging Cases<br />

The main objectives of this half day<br />

module are to illustrate difficult<br />

and complicated LASIK cases and<br />

highlight the management of LASIK<br />

complications. There will be case<br />

discussions on how to manage<br />

difficult LASIK cases and video<br />

presentations on the management of<br />

intra-operative LASIK complications.<br />

Wet Lab Module<br />

This is a half day wetlab programme<br />

on the use of the AMO Intralase<br />

Femtosecond laser, Zeiss Visumax<br />

Femtosecond laser, Ziemer<br />

Femtosecond laser and the Alcon<br />

EX500 Excimer laser platforms.<br />

Participants will be able to discuss<br />

practical pointers with experienced<br />

LASIK surgeons and the industry<br />

representatives.<br />

Participants will be required to<br />

attend all 4 modules to obtain the<br />

full LASIK accreditation by <strong>SNEC</strong> and<br />

the various companies.<br />

Accredited and experienced LASIK<br />

surgeons may benefit by attending<br />

modules 2 and 3.<br />

refractive surgery and alternatives<br />

ablations etc. Participants will also learn<br />

about new LASIK technologies.<br />
