Keratoplasty is the procedure whereby abnormal corneal tissue is replaced by
a healthy donor cornea. It has been performed for over a century and has been
the most common and most successful form of human transplantation. Corneal
transplantation continues to evolve and emerging techniques offer the potential of
a truly customised personal transplant material within a generation.
This course will discuss the advances in Keratoplasty, developments in corneal
donation and approach to post-operative care of a corneal transplant recipient.
Continuing optometry education is organised bi-monthly to help professionals keep
abreast on the up-to-date knowledge and technology related to Optometry. This
ensures that Optometrists maintain their knowledge and practise at a competent
level and participate in continuing professional education activities.
Continuing professional education (CPE) consists of educational activities that
serve to maintain, develop or increase the knowledge, skills and professional
performance of optometrists and opticians. It is important for the practitioners to
continue upgrading their professional competence to provide up-to-date services
to the public. To ensure this, the optometrists and opticianary Board oversees a CPE
framework to help practitioners to stay conversant.
The Board had recently enhanced the CPE framework and it is now mandatory for
all professionals with full registration to declare their CPE credits obtained during
the qualifying period at their next PC renewal. Participants will be awarded 1 CPE
point by OOB.
