FACILITIES<br />
<strong>SNEC</strong>’s facilities include an eight-storey tower block and<br />
a four-storey podium block. There are three floors of<br />
subspecialty outpatient clinics supported by diagnostic,<br />
imaging and laser systems, nine operating theatres, day<br />
recovery suites, an ophthalmic pharmacy, training and<br />
educational facilities as well as one floor dedicated to<br />
Singapore Eye Research Institute’s (SERI) research clinics.<br />
SERI’s research laboratories are housed in the Academia<br />
building next to <strong>SNEC</strong>.<br />

The following subspecialties have been established<br />
to provide treatment for a wide spectrum of eye<br />
conditions from comprehensive to tertiary levels:<br />

QUALITY ASSURANCE<br />
The vigorous quality assurance programme in <strong>SNEC</strong> has<br />
been internationally recognised as a cost effective method<br />
for monitoring standards. Every single eye operation is<br />
videotaped for teaching purposes and the monitoring of<br />
outcomes. Surgical results are audited and benchmarked<br />
against international standards.<br />
RESEARCH<br />
<strong>SNEC</strong> is actively involved in clinical trials and research into<br />
the causes and treatment of major eye conditions such as<br />
myopia and glaucoma. Thousands of ophthalmologists<br />
from neighbouring countries and beyond have<br />
participated in the Centre’s teaching courses and<br />
international meetings. To advance ophthalmic science<br />
and service, <strong>SNEC</strong> has also fostered strategic links with<br />
leading eye institutions around the world.<br />
<strong>SNEC</strong> was accorded the Excellence for SingaporeAward<br />
2003 for achieving excellence in the area of<br />
Ophthalmology, thrusting Singapore into international<br />
prominence. In 2006 <strong>SNEC</strong> received the first Minister for<br />
Health Award for public health. Clinician scientists from<br />
<strong>SNEC</strong> and SERI were awarded the prestigious President’s<br />
Science and Technology Awards in 2009, 2010 and 2014<br />
for their outstanding contributions in translational,<br />
clinical and epidemiological research. <strong>SNEC</strong> has attained<br />
Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, an<br />
international mark and endorsement for quality patient<br />
care and safety.<br />
LOCAL NETWORK<br />
<strong>SNEC</strong> has developed a network of branches and affiliated<br />
centres, including the KK Eye Clinic, KK Women’s and<br />
Children’s Hospital; <strong>SNEC</strong> Eye Clinic @ CGH (Changi<br />
General Hospital); <strong>SNEC</strong> Alexandra Branch, Alexandra<br />
Hospital and <strong>SNEC</strong> Eye Associates, Gleneagles Hospital.<br />
INTERNATIONAL NETWORK<br />
<strong>SNEC</strong> has established strong regional and international<br />
links with major eye centres in Malaysia, Indonesia,<br />
Philippines, India, Bangladesh, and People’s Republic of<br />
China, Australia, UK, Spain and the USA.<br />
