• Personal Statement: Nursing is definitely in
“interesting times” right now. A serious nursing
shortage looms, according to many sources. However,
with advanced health care abilities, many patients
leave the hospital much faster after major surgeries;
mandating significant major pre-operative and postoperative
patient teaching with even more indications
for home care opportunities. The nurse is now
performing tasks and holding positions as never
before.
I do consent to serve as the SDNA Alternative
Representative to the Membership Assembly as
needed by the state nurses’ association.
Nursing with a focus of Family Nurse Practitioner,
and a PhD in Nursing Education. I have also received
the Certified Nurse Educator credential and a
certification in online teaching.
• Area of Practice: Nursing Education, with a
background in Med/Surg, mental health and
International Nursing
• Present position and place of employment: Assistant
• Personal Statement: Policies and issues related
to health care are currently in a state of turmoil.
Together, nurses and student nurses can collectively
have a great impact on determining the direction of
health care at the state and national levels. Increased
education for nurses on how to become involved
in current health priorities is critical to help current
and future nurses understand how important their
involvement is to determine the role of nursing in
the changing health environment. If placed in the
position of being a delegate, I will strive to be a
voice for South Dakota’s nurses, and be a voice in
empowering nurses to be more aware and involved in
current issues.
