From
The
Editor
Tom Tyler
Sometimes I wonder what I will put
in this segment, and most of it will
be from my own experiences. I have
went on before about what’s wrong
with the world now that I’m older.
I think the problem is, that we have
given up as consumers, even with
getting our information. What I mean
is, we do not question anything, we
accept it. I think you only see it when
you are older because you have seen
the world when it was different.
When it was “the good old days.”
Now I guess my parents would have
said the same thing about when they
From
The
Editor
Tiffany Blanton
It sure has been a wonderful
experience working for The
Banner. This month will be
my last employed here as
editor and sales
representive. I really have
enjoyed all of the customers
and people I have met. I sure
hope the best for eveyone.
God Bless All!
were young that then was the time
of the good old days.
I have reported in this paper before
on how products are made to
fail, how food has been modified,
etc. but no one really questions this
stuff or we just don’t care. A news
story last week was talking about
how amounts of weed killer were
found in breakfast cereal. How did
it get there? Was it in the seed of
the grain that was grown? I had reported
on this before and you have
to realize, that if weed killer or
growth hormone is genetically
modified in the seed, that the end
grain will end up in the breakfast
cereal, or the cattle/chicken feed,
then the milk, beef, eggs, chicken
meat, corn chip snacks, and whatever
other products that come from
Hi - View, LLC Rockcastle
(606) 256-3203
that seed. But that is only my opinion.
It seems to me that the early 90’s is
when things changed. Farmers were
forclosed on and many farms disappeared.
So where did the food start
coming from? I saw a report where
the state fair’s dairy farmers were
worried, because the price of milk
had gotten so low. I remember local
dairy farms and the families that ran
them in the 90’s but don’t know of
one now. Where is the milk coming
from? Corporate Farms? How are we
getting enough food for the larger
population when you don’t see farming
like in the 90’s?
Another report from last week said
there were unsafe amounts of heavy
metals in baby food. How did that
get there?
DID YOU KNOW?
• There is almost always an
Normal ears of corn with an
to things that only exist
because people believe in
them - like taking a placebo
you’ve convinced yourself it
was real medicine. There’s
also a Reverse Tinkerbell
As Israel, America has hewed out cisterns that hold
no water. They have sought satisfaction through
fleshly efforts. They worship the creature more than
the Creator. They have a zeal, but not according to
knowledge. They have, religion without a Redeemer.
While Americans pursue the gods of profit,
pleasure, and popularity they are spiritually bankrupt,
in a sad condition, and very unpopular in God’s sight.
How sad it is! America is dying of spiritual thirst and
yet won’t drink the water of life. Perishing from
hunger she neglects the bread of life and continues
to break her teeth on the vain philosophies of this
world.
The answer to our problems is summed up in one
verse of the Scriptures.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall
humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and
turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from
heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their
land”. II Chronicles 7:14
What about it, does your heart beat a little faster,
do you get a chill up your spine, does a lump come
in your throat, does a tear dampen your eye when
you watch Old Glory being raised to the tune of the
National Anthem? If so, then mister you are an
American. Freedom, yes freedom, is what
Americanism is all about.
Freedom of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
If you are unsaved why not make this the day of
your independence from the world, the flesh, and
the Devil by trusting Christ as your Saviour. “If’ the
Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free
indeed”. John 8:36
If you are saved why not fall on your knees, confess
your failures, and rededicate your life to God. May
the following words be our prayer.
“America, America, we claim thee as our own. For
thee we face the cannon’s mouth and scorn the
monarchs’ throne. But lest like bygone nations thou
dost loose thy proud extate, We humbly ask for
guidance from the God who made thee great!”
That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men,
but in the power of God.
Cheryl, where he is a Christian author,
outreach minister and community chaplain.
Learning the difference between
faith and rebellion
Just because we read about how to live a
victorious Christian life does not mean we will
automatically convert into an overcomer. We
must absorb His Word through our brain and
into our spirit all the while learning how to
surrender our will and discipline our flesh. The
true Christian life is not easy, in fact the more
serious we become the more difficult it will
be. Listen, if we are born again, our spirit is
connected with God’s Spirit and we have a
wonderful opportunity to channel His energy
into our being. If we can prevent our mind
from talking us out of it, we can be saved from
ourselves but it’s going to take our total
commitment and dedication. Being filled with
His Spirit means that He has been given us
the opportunity to transform the way we think
and this will literally change who we are.
Persistence and stubbornness are not the same
thing. Being stubborn “for God” is faith but
being stubborn toward God is being rebellious
and He’s not impressed with this type of
determination. He appreciates and blesses us
for being persistent but when He tells us no
and we keep pushing forward, we have fallen
into dis-obedience. There have been times in
my life when I did not know whether to quit
or keep going. When doors have been
slammed in my face, I kept knocking and
continuing even to the point of trying to force
them open with a bull-dozer. However, there
can be problems with this type of mentality.
Maybe God never intended for them to open
and all of our demolition just makes a huge
mess including the misery and discouragement
from resentment and confusion. This is why
it’s crucial to KNOW if the devil is working
against us - or if the Lord is saying no.
Among the more unusual
SUDOKU
The rules are simple. A quick look reveals that the
puzzle is a 9-by-9 grid of squares divided into
nine 3-by-3 square blocks, with some of the
squares filled in for you. The object is to fill in
the blank squares in such a way that each
of the numbers1 to 9 appears exactly
once in each row, column, and block.
If the puzzle has been constructed properly,
there should be only one way to complete the
diagram within the rules of the game.
Despite this apparent simplicity,
solving some sudoku puzzles
can be complicated indeed.
For thirty-five years a man
had faithfully served as a
“Keeper of the Lighthouse.”
In addition to the bright light
swirling through the darkness,
a warning gun was fired
automatically every five
minutes. He had heard its
“shot” so often for so long
that it did not disturb him.
One night while he was
asleep, the
gun did not fire as it normally
did. He awakened with a
shout and said to his wife,
“What happened?”
Our psalmist prayed for
many years. God had always
answered his prayers. One
day, however, his prayer was
answered with silence. So, he
cried out, “O God, do not
keep silent; be not quiet, O
God, be not still.”
Sometimes God is silent
because He is testing us. One
night a storm arose and high
water started to flood their
little boat. Jesus was sound
asleep. In fear, the disciples
awakened Him shouting,
“Doesn’t it bother You that we
are about to perish?” Calmly
He rebuked the wind and the
waves and things settled
down. They had faith in His
power but it was a limited faith.
After they tested Him and saw
what He could do, their faith
became firm and their trust in
Him complete. He was silent
up to a certain point because
He wanted to strengthen their
belief in Him.
Sometimes God is still
because He has something to
teach us. When He is, it is a
signal from Him that we are to
search our lives to see what
has separated us from Him.
Isaiah said, “Your sins have
hid His face from you, so that
He will not hear you.” But
with our confession comes His
cleansing and the restoration
of our communication.
Miracle in Boyle County
In Perryville, Ky, a mule that
a family has had for 17 years
gave birth. Because of the
breeding of 2 species that produces
an odd number of chromosomes,
mules are supposed
to be sterile and not able to produce
young. A male donkey
(jack) mating with a female
horse (mare) produces a mule,
a male horse (stallion) that
mates with a female donkey
(jenny) produces a hinny. Mules
and hinnies can be male or female.
Although rare, mules have
From page 15.
given birth before.
In 2002, a 14-year-old mother
mule in Morocco surprised everyone
by giving birth.
“The mule’s aged owner did
not realize the mule was pregnant
and rode her 12 miles to
market the day before the birth.”
Only 60 cases of mules giving
birth were recorded from 1527
to 2002, nearly 500 years. In
recent times, mules produced a
filly in China in 2001 and colts
to mules in Morocco in 2002
and Colorado in 2007. However,
according to the American
Donkey and Mule Society, only
one hinny mare has ever been
known to give birth, in China in
1981.
~Peanut Butter Cup S’moreo Bars~
For the oreo base:
• 24 oreos, crushed
• 2 tbsp butter, melted
• 2 tbsp milk (any kind)
For the toppings:
• 1/2 cup peanut butter, warmed
• 1/2 cup milk / semisweet chocolate chips
or chopped chocolate
• 24 large marshmallows halved, (or 2 cups
mini marshmallows)
• 6 peanut butter cups, chopped
~Instructions~
1. Preheat your oven to 350º F. Line a 8" square pan with foil or baking paper. Spray with oil (or use a
pastry brush to brush the oil on). Set aside.
2. To make the base: Combine the crushed oreos with the melted butter and milk.
3. Scatter the mixture evenly into the lined pan and press down. Bake for 6 minutes.
4. Once baked, immediately spread the warmed peanut butter over the oreo base. Evenly scatter the
chocolate chips over the peanut butter. Completely cover with the halved marshmallows (or mini
marshmallows), placing them cut side down.
5. Place under a broiler for under 1 minute to toast the marshmallows (watch them closely!) - mine took
around 30 seconds.
6. Immediately scatter the chopped peanut butter cups over the marshmallow layer.
7. Cut into 12 or 16 bars (ummm...I’d go with 16, these are like a sugar bomb) Serve warm.
