Since my grandfather worked at the
quarry, he occasionally would bring
home a sort of “rock candy” balls,
red and white, that were delicious.
They were kind of like a hard outer
shell but soft enough to chew. For
survivors? I think I have read in the
past that these had iodine in them,
but can’t find a picture or any info
on them. The quarry he worked at is
under different ownership now, and
I don’t advise trespassing on a
quarry, just to snoop for candy. I
This is not a picture of the original
candy but was as close as I could
come up with. It would be about
45yrs old now.
“Take nothing on its looks. Take
everything on evidence. There’s no
better rule!” wrote Charles Dickens
in Great Expectations.
Years later, a fictional detective, Sgt.
Joe Friday became famous for the
phrase, “Just the facts, Ma’am. All I
want are the facts .” If there were no
facts there could be no reliable
evidence.
“Shout for joy to God, all the earth ...
Say to God, ‘How awesome are Your
deeds! So great is Your power .. . All
the earth bows down to You ,”’ wrote
David.
Everywhere David looked, he saw
God’s “awesome deeds.” And these
“deeds” provided all the “evidence”
he, and those who met with him in
worship, needed to have to believe in
the God of Israel.
These “awesome deeds” can be seen
have spoke to others that also had
sampled this type of candy, but it
must have been depleted years ago
as I have not seen any in a long time.
As we lived just on the south end
of Mt. Vernon, it seemed everyday
that there was either a B-52 bomber
or some sort of transport plane that
went from west to east. I never remembered
seeing them go the other
way. I would wonder then as a kid,
where are all of these going?, did
these have soldiers on them?, supplies?,
tanks? I didn’t know if they
were cargo planes or what. I’m pretty
convinced after seeing a mounted
one in Colorado Springs as a teen,
that these were the B-52 bombers.
Perhaps they had been transporting
bombs? And you really don’t realize
how big these things are until you
see one up close and in person. After
the cold war settled down, and
this was also the time that the Vietnam
war started winding down,
those flights, started decreasing in
how often they flew over until they
just stopped, and we forgot about
in His-story: God judging and
punishing those who were disobedient
to Him; those who broke His laws
and disregarded and disobeyed His
commandments. They paid the price.
His-story also includes examples of
His countless blessings and unending
love, mercy and grace that He
graciously blest those who trusted
Him. He protected them and provided
for their every need as long as they
were obedient to His Word and His
ways. And He still does.
The Bible contains all of the evidence
that is needed for us to see the
“awesome deeds” of God. In His
story He gives us “evidence” and
“facts” that are undeniable.
Christian faith is a faith established
on truths that cannot be denied. With
David we can “Shout for joy!”

Colonel’s image is probaby known
throughout most of the world now.

1 quart oil for frying
4 summer squash, cut into
chunks
1 medium onion, grated
2 eggs, beaten
2/3 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup dry corn muffin mix
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
Heat the oil in a deep, heavy
skillet or deep fryer to 365 degrees
F.
Place the squash in a pot with
enough water to cover. Bring to
a boil, and cook 10 minutes, or
until tender. Drain, and mash.
In a bowl, mix 2 cups squash*,

healthy, and having food in
the pantry. Over the years
we’ve watched other countries
suffer and we have said, “what
a mess the world is in” while
we never imagined that maybe
we’ve become spoiled and that
our life of prosperity would go
on forever. What if our life suddenly
changed and how would
we react if it did? Paul reminds
us in Philippians 4:11-13, “I am
not saying this because I am in
need, for I have learned to be
content whatever the circumstances.
I know what it is to be
in need, and I know what it is to
have plenty. I have learned the
secret of being content in any
and every situation, whether well
fed or hungry, whether living in
plenty or in want. I can do all
this through Christ who gives
me strength.”

1842, and doctors predicted

world in his day. Having done
so, he wept, because, hesaid,
“There are no more worldsto
conquer.”
Where then is
happiness found?
The answer is simple: In Christ
alone. He said, “I will see you
again, and your heart shall
rejoice, and your joy no man
taketh from you.”

Helium is the second most abundant
element in the universe, most
of it in the Earth's atmosphere
bleeds off into space. Helium usually
makes up a minuscule portion
of natural gas, but can make up as
much as 10 percent of natural gas
in some fields.There is no chemical
way of manufacturing helium, and
the supplies we have originated in
the very slow radioactive alpha decay
that occurs in rocks. It costs
around 10,000 times more to extract
helium from air than it does from
rocks and natural gas reserves.
Helium production in the United
States totaled 73 million cubic
meters in 2014. ... Today, the U.S.
alone produces 75 percent of the
world's helium. Nearly half of that
total, or roughly 30 percent of the
world's helium supply, comes from
the U.S. Federal Helium Reserve.
In the natural gas fields near Amarillo,
the U.S. government maintains
the country's largest helium storehouse.
That reserve is held in a huge

natural underground reservoir
called the Bush Dome. The government
put it there back in 1925
because natural gas produced at
the gas fields between Amarillo
and Hugoton, Kan., has a very
high helium concentration—up to
1.9 percent.The dome is connected
to a pipeline that links the stored
helium with nearby helium refining
facilities and the natural gas fields
in Kansas. All commercial helium
is recovered from natural gas. Although
other countries produce
helium, (other major helium producers
were Algeria and Qatar), the
natural gas fields elsewhere around
the globe are much less heliumrich
than those near Amarillo.
Because helium was critical to military
reconnaissance and space exploration
in the mid-20th Century,
Congress mandated that the government
encourage private helium
producers nationwide to sell their
helium to the government and store
it near Amarillo as part of the Federal
Helium Program.At its height,
the U.S. Bureau of Land Management
facility held 30 billion cubic
feet of helium, enough to meet 15
years of global demand at the time.
But now, the reserve is winding
June 14.
It commemorates the adoption
of the flag of the United
States on June 14, 1777 by
resolution of the Second
Continental Congress.

government out of the helium business.
In 1996, Congress required the
BLM to sell off its helium stores at a
fixed rate and then abruptly close in
2013. But instead of closing the reserve,
Congress smoothed out its
descent in 2013, giving it until September
30, 2021, to sell its helium
stores in a series of auctions.
The private industry's response to
the required government sell-off
has been too slow and the geology
of the helium reservoir near Amarillo
is too complex to simply sell off
the helium stored inside and then
close its doors. If the valve was
simply left wide open to deplete the
entire supply at once, valuable helium
would be stranded in the
ground and never recovered.
Some retail stores that sell a lot
of helium balloons have already
anounced closures. But helium
goes into a lot more than balloons.
Scientists use it in cryogenics, highenergy
accelerators, arc welding,
and silicon wafer manufacturing. A
severe reduction in the availability
of helium could force hospitals to
replace costly MRI magnets or restrict
patient access to them.

state to report an Asian
long-horned tick, first on
a dog in 2013 and in August
2017 on a sheep.
Since then, nine other
states: Arkansas, Connecticut,
