Brighter Bridge Of Weir -
Seven Year Itch
It’s been 7 years since Brighter Bridge of Weir started work
on the Torr Road Garden, the Group‘s first big project. After major civil
engineering works the area was just a rough, triangular slope of bare, stony
ground. Now it’s another example of the Group’s commitment to enhancing
the village. They were itching for the opportunity to give it a going-over so,
early last month, some of the Group spent an entire day working on it. They
filled 18 bags with deadwood and weeds and gave the plants a general
health check. It’s hard now to remember what it looked like back in 2011,
but you can see pictures on the website: www.brighterbridgeofweir.org
The Group had
planned to run another
Fun Casino fundraiser
again this year
but the unfortunate
closure of the village’s
British Legion Club
has meant they’ve
had to postpone that.
However, they’ve got
a ‘Plan B’, so keep
the fi rst Saturday in
October free and look
out for more information
coming soon on their
Facebook page and
elsewhere throughout the village! (facebook.com/brighterbridgeofweir).
If you’re a member of the public wanting to enjoy some fresh air in a local
there is information for you and much more. https://www.outdooraccessscotland.scot/
Autumn is at last upon us, and as the seasons change, so does the
reserve! Flowers make way for mushrooms, toadstools and other
fungi. Birds leave for warmer climes and others arrive. The leaves in
the trees change colour, before falling to the ground. Many hedgerows
are thick with berries.
If you haven’t been to the reserve before, why not seize the day and
come along to our Doors Open Day weekend, on Saturday 8 and
Sunday 9th September (10am - 4pm). Entry will be FREE, as will our
self-led activities!
Don’t forget bats! Although they are around all summer, as they tend to
come out at or after dusk, most of us don’t tend to see them much until
the days start to shorten. Did you know that different types of bat come
out at different times, some before it gets dark and others, only once full
dark has set in?
If you’d like to learn more about bats and perhaps even see some, why
not come along to our Bat Night on Friday 28 September (7pm – late!)?
Members of the Clyde bat Group will tell us all about these fascinating
animals and if the weather is playing ball, we’ll go out and have a look,
or even a listen, with bat detectors!
For more information about the reserve or any of our events, please call
