Third set of twins from same
family start P1
A mum who defi ed odds of 500,000 to
one to give birth to three sets of twins
is celebrating the milestone of the
youngest starting school.
Twin girls Rowan and Isla Rodger
made worldwide headlines on their
arrival in 2013 and are the last of
their siblings to start primary one
at Langbank Primary School in
Renfrewshire this week.
The girls, who turned fi ve in May,
are following in the footsteps of older
brothers Lewis and Kyle, 19, born in
1998, and Finn and Jude, 17, born in
2001.
Jude, Kyle, Lewis, Finn
and Rowan and Isla at the front
Lewis and Kyle are both at university while Finn and Jude are in their final
year of Secondary school at Park Mains High in Erskine.
There is a history of multiple births in Karen’s family with her maternal
grandmother a twin, but she said: “It’s totally random that we have had three
sets. Many people assume we’ve had IVF treatment which we haven’t.
“After four boys I never felt fi nished and when I hit 40 I thought ‘it’s now or
never’. When I was pregnant for the third time it didn’t cross my mind it’d be
twins again. I had a scan at six weeks when Colin was away on business
and he nearly fell off his chair when I told him. After the girls were born it all
seems a bit blurry life was so hectic.”
“It’s been an absolute joy but girls are definitely different to boys. They
were negotiating with me aged three.”
Langbank Primary head teacher Simon Cundy said: “We are absolutely
delighted to welcome the third set of twins from the Rodger family to the
school....I’m pretty sure we must be the only school in the country which
can make the claim to fame to have educated so many twins from the
same family and we all wish the girls every success in the first steps of their
school career.”
Houston Primary School
School Values
The pupils, staff and parents put their heads together to come up with a
new set of easily recognisable values to be displayed around the school.
After much consultation and discussion, we finally agreed on four values for
Houston Primary School - SUCCESS, RESPECT, FRIENDS, HONESTY
A competition to design how these values could be displayed was also
carried out during Assembly. We had very many fantastic entries, with the
pupils voting for a jigsaw design. Here is our finished logo.
Maths Week
Pupils will participate in Maths Week Scotland from 10th-16th September.
This is an initiative to raise the profile of maths and its importance in all
aspects of our lives. There will also be Sumdog online challenges for
participating classes.
Building Works
The roofing works have started and it is hoped that we will have a new roof
by November, weather permitting. We thank all parents who have sought
alternative parking areas to drop off and pick up their child/children whilst
works are in progress and parking space is limited.
