President’s Column
Sheryl Mitchell, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, ACNP-BC
SCNA President
Welcome to our last
edition for 2018. This year
has gone by unbelievably
fast. It seems like yesterday
that I was trying to decide
what I would say in the first
issue of this year. Once
again, I am pondering what
to say. However, this time
is different because this
will be my last column as
president of this wonderful
organization.
Sheryl Mitchell
In several of my columns, I
have focused on nurses engaging in their profession
and organization, and this remains my goal for
the last few months of the year. We have had a
successful year with the removal of many barriers to
practice for APRNs. However, there are additional
issues that nurses in South Carolina must continue
to address. Nurses must be able to practice safely
RNs (FT) needed for our Greensboro NC ACT Team.
Must be licensed by NC Board of Nursing, BSN required,
plus 4 years exp. Psychiatric exp preferred. Send CV to
hrrecruiter@ps-corp.net; or fax 302-678-9610.
For more info, call 302-678-9962 or visit
Psychotherapeuticservices.com.
and without harm from patients. We must continue
to have critical conversations about our nurse to
patient ratios so that we can ensure that patients are
receiving a high quality of care. We must continue
to monitor federal and state legislation. We must
continue to be actively engaged in finding solutions
to the opioid and mental health crises. We must
remember that while advancing our profession and
advocating for our patients, we must also take care
of ourselves. Remember, a healthy nurse is a healthy
nation.
There is still much left to do. My last request is
that you continue to be engaged in your profession
and organization. We want to hear from you! Please
contact Rosie Robinson at Rosie@scnurses.org
if you are interested in serving in any capacity at
SCNA.
Before I end my last column; I would like to
express my gratitude and thank you to everyone. I
would like to thank South Carolina nurses for trusting
me to lead this organization. We have represented
nurses at many meetings, established new
partnerships, and reaffirmed others. Second, I would
like to thank past presidents and board members
who encouraged me throughout my journey. Third,
I would like to thank our current Board of Directors
for their time and effort. I would like to thank them
for their feedback, encouragement, laughs, and
memories. I could not have done it without you.
I would like to thank Mrs. Rosie Robinson for
keeping me organized as well as the many laughs.
I would like to thank Mrs. Judith Thompson for her
words of wisdom, guidance, and mentorship. You
are an incredible individual with a vast amount of
knowledge, courage, and strength. This wonderful
opportunity would not have been a success without
you. Finally, I would like to thank my family for their
support, patience, love, and understanding.
