POLICE NEWS<br />

VALE John Peter Morrisby<br />

JOHN PETER MORRISBY formerly of Cressy<br />

Road Ryde died on September 9 from cancer aged<br />

74.<br />

John was the elder son of the late Victor and Kathleen<br />

Morrisby.<br />

Vic was a Police officer and active local Ryde community<br />

worker including a church warden at the former<br />

Orient Street Monash Park Sunday School and church<br />

and a member of Ryde District Historical Society.<br />

He accepted the position of a trustee on the Addington<br />

Trust to help save Australia’s oldest complete<br />

settlers’ cottage at the invitation of Trust founder John<br />

F Booth.<br />

Kath was a nurse at Weemala the Home for Incurables<br />

now known as the Royal Rehab.<br />

John had a younger brother Stephen who became<br />

a senior police officer but predeceased John when officer<br />

in charge at Parramatta.<br />

John was a self employed truck driver for Fairfax delivering<br />

John was also an active member of Sydney St<br />

George’s Guild of former scouts and guides meeting<br />

at historic “Addington” where he had also helped to<br />

save it in the early fund raising days in his childhood.<br />

In later years John enjoyed travelling overseas and<br />

especially to exotic places like the Antarctic.<br />

JB had known John from his childhood days as his<br />

Sunday School teacher at St Thomas’ church and<br />

Sunday school at Orient Street Monash Park and<br />

maintained the association and friendship including<br />

inviting him to join the St George’s Guild. We will all<br />

miss him. RIP John.<br />
