INTERVIEW
What inspired you to take up a
Career in acting?
I studied theatre arts at the University
of Port Harcourt in River State Nigeria.
Yes, acting hasn’t always been what
i wanted, but i did after all: not just
because i studied theatre arts but
because of my passion for the arts.
What prepared you for your career
as an actor?
I started off as a stage performer
way back in school, so that formed
me and my sensibilities as far as acting
and other forms of entertainment
was concerned. However, we were
not taught about the business side
of entertainment. We were only
taught hands on arts and how we
can give our best in every theatrical
performance. We were however
taught the theoretical part of theatre....
never were we given the hand outs on
how to make money with our talents.
You know, this is how you can monetize
your God given talent… So as at then,
we weren’t really ready for what we are
facing now in terms of monetary value
etc. But we are catching up fast now.
It’s never too late.
What’s the biggest risk you’ve taken
in your Career and did it pay off?
No risk so far so good.
In retrospect what role do you regret
playing or playing the way you did
and why?
In retrospect, I wouldn’t say I regret
playing any role. Every role was an
experience; each carried its own
weight that I was able to interpret so
well within my capacity. I enjoyed
every role I played to the best of my
ability.
What has been your best filming
experience thus far?
I think it must have been when
began my career proper. I enjoyed
acting and producing ’kiss n tell’. That
was my first attempt at producing
my first feature film in 2010 on a very
lean budget and I must say that was
an amazing experience. That was
when i experienced true friendship,
togetherness, trust and great respect.
We meted to one another. My
colleagues came together and
we teamed up and brought that
amazing piece to life and that movie
recorded a huge success.
After decades in the Industry and
several awards, is there any role
that you desire to play and haven’t
yet had the chance to?
Yes. I wish to play a 70- a 90 year
old woman. i would like to see myself
interpret such a complex role. I
wonder when that day would come
(lolll).
If you were to branch out, what
career line or industry would you
branch into?
I would like to branch off to read
international relations. I love the
idea of becoming a diplomat. I am
looking forward to going back to
school just for that though. That is one
i dream I intend to fulfil, and so shall it
be by The Grace of God.
What is the most challenging part of
being in the movie industry?
The fact that every word you utter
in the public domain, you will be held
accountable. That you cannot act
or behave ‘anyhow” in the public
domain, you must be in control of
yourself and your emotions. Whilstit’s
ok to be yourself, be conscious of
yourself and what you “put” out there.
What is your favourite part about
being a celebrity?
That you are sometimes given
preference treatment at certain
places, like the bank, the restaurants,
at airports, social gatherings, being
able to put zillion of smiles on
people’s faces etc
What is the most overrated part of
being a celebrity?
Celebrities are human. We are
allowed to make one or two mistakes;
I would wish the public will judge us
less.
Who has been your all-time
favourite Director to work with and
why?
Mr Lancelot Imasuen and Hon
Desmond Elliot. For no particular
