Every year, the Royal Canadian Legion conducts
the “Poppy Campaign”. Poppies are distributed
freely, but your generous donations are
invaluable. From Friday October 26 to Remembrance
Day November 11, millions of Canadians
wear a Poppy as a visual pledge to never
forget those who sacrificed for our freedom. We
invite everyone across the country to show their
recognition by proudly wearing this symbol of
Remembrance and taking a moment to reflect.

wheel. 182,800 kms. The not so good: has under-cab
rust issues. Repairable, but I don’t have

mechanical (out-of-province) inspection in order

OBITUARY
MacPHEAT - Kathleen (Kay)
Aug. 29, 1924 - Oct. 5, 2018
Kay was born on a farm west of Gibbs, SK the only
child of Harry and Miriam Woods. She attended
Stoney Croft School, often riding there on horseback,
and boarded in Silton for high school. Kay worked
in a war factory in Brantford, ON, where she riveted
wing parts for Air Force bombers. She was called
home to care for her ailing mother who later died
when Kay was only 20 years old. After attending
Normal School in Moose Jaw, she taught at Eddy
School east of Bulyea. In 1947 Kay married John
MacPheat. They farmed in the Marieton District
for over 40 years where they raised their 3 children.
Kay and John retired to Strasbourg in 1989. Kay was
a 4-H leader, an active member of the Royal Canadian
Legion Auxiliary, the Silton and Strasbourg United Churches, and a founding
member of the Last Mountain Pioneer Home Auxiliary.
Kay passed away peacefully at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her husband
John and daughter Audrey. Cherishing her memory are her son Murray
(Lorraine); daughter Lois (Hugh) Roth; son-in-law Doug (Shelly) Wichman; former
daughter-in-law Mary (Bill) Nosen; grandchildren: Curtis (Christie) MacPheat,
Ryan (Nadine) MacPheat, Monique (Mark) Walkingshaw, Tara McKenzie (Scott
Larsson), Michael (Megan) Roth, David Roth (Laurie), Walter Wichman and Dallas
Wichman; twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and many
nieces and nephews who fondly remember Aunty Kay.
The family would like to thank the staff at Last Mountain Pioneer Home for their
compassionate care and all those who helped celebrate Kay’s life with calls, cards,
food and prayer. Donations of remembrance may be made to LMPH Foundation,
Strasbourg, or Strasbourg United Church.

A German U-boat lands on the coast of
Labrador, sets up an automatic weather
station and transmits data to the
German Navy for three months before
shutting down. Not discovered until
July, 1981.
