LIVERPOOL FC
Aintree and Haydock Park Racecourses both host
Class 1 horse racing throughout the calendar.
The highlight of course is each April, when the
Randox Health Grand National comes to town,
attracting tens of thousands of spectators as well
as more than 600 million TV viewers worldwide.
However it’s not just horse racing. In December, the
Liverpool International Horse show returns to the
Echo Arena, bringing world-class dressage and show
jumping to the city in an end-of-year spectacular
that’s ideal for enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
The city region’s coastal locations means it’s a perfect
spot for golf courses, boasting 19 in total. The jewels
in the crown are the two Royal links courses – Royal
Birkdale and Royal Liverpool – which regularly host
the Open Championship. The Claret Jug most
recently came here in July 2017, when Jordan Speith
triumphed on the Sefton coast. And if you want to play
a round yourself, most courses welcome visitors.
Rugby League fans will know the stature of St. Helens,
who have been at the forefront of the game since
it started. The city region is also home to a second
EVERTON FC
Super League team, Widnes Vikings, and if you’ve
never been to the thrilling spectacle that is a rugby
league game, there’s no better place to start.
And if you fancy getting involved in a sport yourself, the
city region has you covered. Take a look at Liverpool
Watersports Centre or Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre,
two fantastic facilities which offer beginner
lessons in sports such as canoeing,
windsurfing and open-water swimming.
