2018 MARKED TEN YEARS SINCE LIVERPOOL WAS NAMED EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF
CULTURE AND IT HAS BEEN A BREATH-TAKING ANNIVERSARY YEAR FOR THE CITY REGION.
A year-long schedule of ground-breaking exhibitions,
festivals and events has meant that Liverpool is now
more popular than ever and is firmly cemented
as a major European city break destination.
The perfect base to explore the North West region,
Liverpool is a dynamic and thrilling city with an
unrivalled cultural offering. A packed itinerary of
events will continue long after the anniversary year
is over and with 2 UNESCO accolades to its name
it’s no surprise that Liverpool was voted 3rd in the
TripAdvisor Travellers Choice Awards, sitting only
behind the capital cities of London and Edinburgh.
Liverpool is home to more national museums than any
other city outside of London and visitors can take in
various blockbuster exhibitions. Double Fantasy: John and
Yoko continues to tell the story of the couple in their own
words at Museum of Liverpool until Spring 2019 whilst the
Walker Art Gallery will host exhibitions from both Charles
Rennie Mackintosh and Leonardo da Vinci in 2019.
2019 will also see two of the city’s most iconic locations
transformed, making them the ideal stop off for visitors.
Royal Liver Building 360 will bring guided public tours to
Liverpool’s most iconic landmark, The Royal Liver Building,
for the very first time. Strawberry Fields, made famous
by The Beatles song of the same name, is set to open its
gates to the public with the creation of a brand new visitor
centre alongside a training and work placement hub.
Visitors to Liverpool can also take a trip outside of the
city centre to one of the many galleries across the city
region including Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight
or The Atkinson in Southport. Thrill seekers can hope
the weather works in their favour as they whizz around
the Land Rover Experience and of course the world’s
most famous steeplechase, the Randox Grand National,
will return to Aintree Racecourse in April 2019.
