U14A by Carrie Bester
The U14A side had a relatively good
season. There were some tough
lessons along the way and the boys
have a good idea of areas of the
game they will need to work on as
they progress through their time at
the College.
The season started well and the
boys showed they had good
potential. The stand-out
performance in the early stages of
the season was probably the match
against Curro, where the boys
managed to maintain a high level of
focus and aggression throughout
the game. The first rugby term set
the standard from which we would
need to build.
The boys worked hard, ably
assisted by a group of outside
coaches: Cam Doyle (defence) and
James Murphy, (breakdown, carry
and contact continuity skills). Also
introduced were EMOM workout
sessions to give a taste of things to
come next year, in terms of
conditioning. If we consider success
to be progress towards a goal, then
the boys succeeded. If we use as a
yard stick our repeated games
versus our local rivals, the boys did
very well. In both games during the
first half of the season, we were well
beaten. However, in both games
during the second half of the
season, we showed huge character
and fight, not to mention skill and, if
not for some silly errors, we should
have won both. Against Wynberg,
we were really good on attack and
