VUSA update
WE HAVE JUST COMPLETED an
exciting and very gratifying
rugby season. Our boys playing
for the Busy Bee RFC youth
section have acquitted themselves
very well. We have been included
in the Western Province Primary
Schools league, with fixtures
against WPPS, WBJS, SACS,
Bishops and local community
clubs. The improvement in
playing standards has also been
most pleasing.
Our rugby coaches have
attended the Western Province
Level 1, BOKSMART and IRB
Level 1 Sevens courses. We have
been most fortunate to have had
Nick Venter of Equip EQ
Solutions run a coaches
development workshop and UCT
RFC have been involved in our
coaching sessions. Players from
the Varsity Cup squad have been
down to Langa each week to add
their expertise to our players.
The programme has grown
and we currently have 100
children involved. Our academic
programme is making a
significang difference in our
boys’ efforts at school where the
extra English and Maths classes
reinforce their curriculum
content and adds enrichment.
Based on our assessments, we
have discovered a major issue
with reading and comprehension.
To remedy this we have started
a Grade 1 and 2 reading
programme.
In addition to this, we have
two ladies who we have sent
on The Word Works course,
which promises to be an exciting
and rewarding addition to
our programme.
African Impact, an
organization that places
international gap students into
programmes, have been a
wonderful addition. They bring
an energy and different set of
skills that enrich the boys’ lives.
This has been a wonderful
year for VUSA. We continue to
grow and expand as we partner
with organisations that share a
similar vision to ours, “creating
opportunities” in communities
for children to experience a wide
range of stimulating experiences
in order to improve their lives.
A sharing of facilities,
expertise and funds is the way
forward to create an inclusive
future for all our children. We
look forward to engaging more
with the Bishops community
next year.
