The Irma Home and Garden
Centre was a lumber store when Ron
and Aletha Dempsey purchased it in
1978.
It continued on as a lumber store
through the boom of the 1980’s
with lawn and garden supplies
only a small part of it. When the
lumber business started to die
out, Ron and his wife Aletha
decided to expand the garden
centre.
Aletha passed away 13 years
ago but Ron continued to grow
and expand the business.
Ron does not like to buy in
large quantities, he likes to buy
in ‘ones and twos’ so that each
customer can know that they are
getting something unique.
The store has over 5000 square feet
of display space. This is needed for
the large amount of merchandise
that it has.
They carry lawn fountains, arbors,
lawn benches and much more for the
garden.
There is home and giftware available
also, John Deere collectibles,
Bernie Brown pottery, unique lamps,
picture frames and large clocks to
give you a small sample of what is
there.
The Centre is open year round and
Ron likes to keep the seasonal merchandise
in the season. This means
that you won’t find the Christmas
stock available until after
Remembrance Day, but what you
find will be unique and different.
Irma Home and Garden will be
having a open house Sunday,
November 18th from 11am till 4pm
to showcase some new unique items
that have arrived in time to stimulate
some holiday shopping a little
early this year.
The Centre is located on Highway
14 at the north end of the town of
Irma. Monday to Friday open 9-12
and 1-5:30; Saturday closing at 5 pm;
and closed on Sunday.
