Paintearth Lodge - “Because we care”
Seniors housing is immensely
important in the mental, emotional,
social and physical well-being of the
elderly. For Paintearth Lodge, an
independent supportive living centre
in Castor, maintaining affordable
and high-quality residences for the
comfort and wellness of their patrons
is their top priority.
Paintearth Lodge offers a wealth of
support for the Seniors as well as
their families; a social and healthy
environment to alleviate loneliness
and encourage independence. The
facility offers many services
including nutritious
meals, housekeeping, activities, and
maintenance free housing. They also
encourage community participation
with their popular Gathering Room,
games and exercise rooms, and a
kitchenette for family/friend gatherings.

Lynn Sabo wanted to own a
second hand book store since she
was a teenager.
Seeing that there was
no book stores for a large
area around Castor she
decided that this was a
good time to go for her
dream.
In Sept. 2017 she
opened The Purple
Platypus.
The name is derived
from a combination of
Lynn’s favorite color,
purple, and her husband’s
fascination with
that funny little
Australian creature, the
platypus.
She raided her own collection
of books to start
the store and now donations
and her exchange
program keep it growing.
The exchange program lets you
bring in and exchange your books
Secondhand Bookstore
for in store credit on other books.
The store has a wide variety of
books, including children’s books
from the baby books to
young adult and all kinds
of adult fiction and non
fiction books, everything
from old westerns to the
most current titles.
They even have audio
books for those who like
to listen to their books.
The books are priced at
one half the original
price on the book.
There is also a book
club and a writing group
associated with the store.
Lynn is very happy
and grateful for all the
great support she has
received from the community
in this first year
of being open.
