EDITOR’S NOTE
It’s the time of the
year when that old
refrain, “Where has the
year gone?”, is being
asked by everyone.
For some, the end of
the year can’t come
soon enough, and for
others it heralds the
festive season and fresh
beginnings. While we
hurtle into the last two
months of the year, let’s
take a few moments to
think about what an
intriguing year it’s been.
The end of year is
a celebratory time for many with children home from or on holiday from school, and the planning of
annual year-end trips. For those celebrating Christmas, preparations will soon begin – parties planned,
gifts chosen, beautiful clothes bought, delicious dinners prepared or booked, and invitations accepted.
With that in mind, we bring you an issue filled with fun, good food, glittery fashion and featuring
remarkable people who pursued their dreams to great success.
Husband-and-wife team Hew Yit Fun and Alison Chen, the power couple behind Stone De Art,
purveyors of fine marble, talked to us about how they started their now-flourishing business and
the challenges they overcame. Sticking to your ideals and hard work is an unbeatable formula and it
has certainly worked for them. This month’s Game Changer focuses on a pair of Asian stars who are
rocking the Hollywood boat – the talented and gorgeous Gemma Chan and Henry Golding. Yes, we’re
a bit biased as Henry is one of our own; but the entire cast did phenomenally well, and Crazy Rich
Asians will always be remembered as the best rom-com of 2018.
This issue’s The Swing focuses on the courses on the emerald isle of Ireland, which boasts more
than 300 courses! The Cookbook is to focuses on Finnish cuisine, which has become part of the New
Nordic food movement and is all about clean flavours, local produce and fish; and we discover a
British-Ghanaian architect making waves with his avant garde designs.
To end, we would like to wish everyone a very happy end to the year and here’s to a tremendous
year ahead!
