Bus lanes being blocked has been an ongoing issue for a number of years, Mr McNoe said. “I think it’s early days . . . clearly it’s frustrating bus drivers at this stage, but I think the approach they [city council] are taking is a reasonable approach.” Alcohol store denies teen on birthday • By Anan Zaki AN AVONHEAD teen was left with a bitter taste on his 18th birthday after a liquor store refused to sell him beer. Car yard worker Andrew Winton turned 18 on November 13. To celebrate his birthday with work colleagues at Avon City Ford, Mr Winton went to buy some beers at Coach Corner Liquor on Yaldhurst Rd. It was his first time buying alcohol. He provided his driver licence to prove he turned 18 on the day, but to his surprise the shop assistant refused to sell him the beer. Mr Winton said the shop assistant told him he wasn’t old enough, and that he had to be 18 years and one day old to buy alcohol. “It was just bizarre.” “I told him I’m 18 and that I can buy it, but he told me it’s the rule and I said, no, I don’t think it is,” he said. Mr Winton decided not to argue and left without his beers. Police confirmed people can purchase alcohol on their 18th birthday. Coach Corner Liquor shop FreshChoice, SuperValue ditch single-use plastic bags FRESHCHOICE and SuperValue are no longer providing single-use plastic carrier bags at their checkouts. The supermarkets went plastic bag-free on Tuesday. Group general manager Robert Smith said he is thrilled to have gone single-use plastic carrier bag-free earlier than expected. So I was confused.” Mr Limbachiya said he regretted the incident and said it will not be repeated. harming our marine species.
