The paintings will also be available for sale. Access to the exhibition is free and is available during The Bridge’s normal opening hours. This exhibition follows on from the Group’s previous successful exhibitions at The Bridge. The artists use a variety of mediums and styles. The exhibition at The Bridge is open during the Centre’s normal opening hours: Monday 9am – 5pm Tuesday 1pm – 5pm; Wednesday 10am – 2pm; Thursday 10am – 2pm; Friday 1pm – 5pm; & Saturday 9am – 1pm. We would like to thank our merry band of volunteers who deliver the cards. Cards will be specially stamped and delivered for a minimum donation of 25p each. The carol singing will be held indoors starting at 6.30pm. The Christmas tree light switch on ceremony will take place outdoors in the Community Centre’s car park, adjacent to the Christmas tree. The carol singers will include children and adults from community organisations. Song sheets will be distributed for everyone else to join in. We tasted different styles of marinated chicken, and an innovative chicken pizza was delicious. Everyone took home a goody bag of marinated chicken, and Drew and Eddie answered questions about all of their award winning produce. They have many special offers and unique fl avour combinations, so visiting the shop in Port Glasgow is recommended. The Bridge – Your Community Centre Shop and Post Offi ce Closed 25th & 26th December 2018 and 1st & 2nd January 2019. bishopton, langbank & bridge of weir Bridge of Weir Messy Church Bridge of Weir Messy Church annual Christingle service will be on Sunday 9th December from 4pm - 6pm. We will be in Freeland church hall from 4pm - 5pm making the Christingles along with other activities. We will then move into the church for a short service, including lighting the Christingles. After that, we will go back to the hall for food and a chat. All welcome, of any age. Just turn up on the day. Free of charge but we will collecting either donations of money for the Children’s Society or donations of new toys that will be given to children in Scotland. We hope to see you there! bishopton, langbank & bridge of weir Bridge of Weir Choral Society Christmas Concert This year’s concert will be on Sunday 16th December in St Columba Church at 7.30pm. Our featured composer this Christmas is John Rutter. We will be singing several of his carols including ‘Rejoice and be merry’, ‘All Bells in Paradise’, and an arrangement of ‘O Holy Night’. The programme also includes ‘Totus Tuus’ by Gorecki and ‘Carol of the Bells’ by Barlow Bradford. We are looking forward to welcoming the Johnstone Brass Band and the Handbell Ringers from Houston Primary School to our concert. Tickets priced £10 will be available from choir members and at the door. As I write this I am thinking of last year’s heavy snow fall and wonder how the council will fare with their winter maintenance. I am pleased that the villages will each get a large community grit bin in addition to the normal grit bins. This is rather worrying given the complexity of an additional green bin into the mix. I would be very interested to hear from you if you are having problems getting your bins emptied. I will continue my efforts to push for a solution at the notorious A8 Langbank roundabout. Your Local MSP Maurice Golden and myself have again written to Transport Scotland as well as Transport Secretary Michael Matheson to put pressure for a permanent solution at a spot where speeding motorists are commonplace. Transport Scotland say that it is too early to carry out a further assessment on the stretch having assessed it in 2015/16, with the cooling off period being three years. We will be asking for another assessment next year and continue to push until we feel motorists and local residents are kept safe by measures put in place. This roundabout coming into Langbank is a notorious stretch for speeding and while fortunately there has not been a raft of fatal accidents, it is clear that local residents continue to have major concerns. It is frustrating to a degree that further assessments cannot be carried out now, as the longer this problem is left, then the greater the risk becomes. I believe the stretch of road at Langbank is an issue which I have campaigned on for years, but I don’t believe a satisfactory solution has yet been found. “It is disappointing that we have to wait until the road can be assessed again, but that must be done as an absolute priority when the cooling off period ends. “It is imperative that motorists and local residents feel safe and I will be continuing to keep the pressure on Transport Scotland to fully invest in upgrading safety at Langbank.” Please note my surgery details: • Langbank Parish Church Hall - 1st Monday of every month (6.30pm) • Bridge of Weir Cargill Hall - 2nd Monday of every month (6.30pm) • Bishopton Community Library - 3rd Monday of every month (6.30pm) I can be contacted by phone on 0300-300-1291 or by email to: cllr. james.maclaren@renfrewshire.gov. uk .
