Heart Start to save a life!
Morag and Liz beside
the AED in Lochwinnoch
Would you know what to do in
an Emergency?
Everyone welcome!
♥ Every week in Scotland, 70 people suffer cardiac arrest.
♥ More than 3500 people per year in Scotland are treated by the Ambulance
Service following a cardiac arrest.
♥ Only one in 20 people will survive.
♥ Without resuscitation, cardiac arrest is always fatal
♥ But, performing CPR could double that person’s chance of survival
Heartstart courses are free of charge and it only takes two hours to learn the
skills which may someday save a life:
♥ Recovery position
♥ CPR and using an Automated External Defi brillator (AED)
♥ Heart Attack
♥ Choking
♥ Serious bleeding
The Advertizer
Speeding traffi c through Howwood is causing considerable
concern. Any hold-ups or accidents on the A737 and Howwood
is used as a ‘Rat-Run’ with motorists having no regard
whatsoever for the residents safety or the added danger to
children. With the fl ashing 30mph sign having been out of
action for over a year now, something needs to be done and
I have asked for repairs to be carried out immediately. The
excessive speed of vehicles using Bowfi eld Road has also been
raised and though I have previously raised this issue and some
changes were made, it obviously is not working. Hopefully in next month's report
I will have better news about these issues.
The progress for the Asset Transfer of the Play Park in Howwood, under the
‘Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015’ seems to have stalled. I have
had discussions with Frank Hughes (Asset Manager, Renfrewshire Council) to try
and keep things moving. The result is that a meeting with representatives from
Howwood Community Council and other interested parties will be meeting on the
19th November to hopefully carry things forward. Our experience on this project
will help in determining how we tackle the Assets of Steeple Hall in Kilbarchan
and the McKillop Institute in Lochwinnoch and whether it is feasible or not.
The Local Partnerships Scheme came into force during November which replaces
the Local Area Committees (LAC). Two Local Partnerships are in Ward 9. LP3
(Houston, Bridge of Weir, Brookfi eld, Kilbarchan, Howwood, Lochwinnoch and
Elderslie) and LP4 (Johnstone and Linwood). The preliminary dates for the fi rst
meetings had to be cancelled and no new dates have been decided prior to this
report. For details of how to apply for funding etc. contact Mr David Low at:- dave.
low@renfrewshire.gov.uk Tel: 0141 61807105.
Funding is always a big issue for charitable organisations, sports clubs, play
groups, parent teacher groups etc. I attended the end of year get together at
the Tannahill Centre, of the Glasgow Airport Flight Path Fund to celebrate, with
recipients, the end of year total of donated funds amounting to £167,000. One
organisation received the £25,000 lump sum which it is hoped can be awarded on
an annual basis for an outstanding application. I am giving you this information as
I would like to see more applicants from Ward 9 sending in applications. Contact
:- glasgowairport.com/community for an online or paper application.
Time really does fl y and it is that time of year again. So without further ado :-
I wish you all a really wonderful Christmas and a fabulous New Year. Email: cllr.
Choral Society
Christmas Concert
The Perfect Start to the Christmas
Holidays
The much-loved Lochwinnoch Choral
Society Christmas Concert is being held on Sunday 16th December at 7pm in
Lochwinnoch Parish Church. This year’s theme is ‘Christmas Bells’ and will
feature a mix of familiar carols and a few Christmas songs that might be new
to some. Once again, the choir will be supported by members of the Scottish
Philharmonic Orchestra, so there is bound to be something for all tastes.
Tickets are £8, with free admission to under 16’s if they are accompanied by
a paying adult, so bring the whole family. After the concert, we hope that the
audience will join us for a complimentary cup of mulled wine (or a soft drink)
which is also included in the ticket price.
Tickets will be available from our brilliant local businesses, the ‘Now and Then’
shop, The Brown Bull Pub and The Junction Cafe. Tickets will also be available on
the door if you are not able to buy one in advance.
