APPLICATION Assured access control for new £15m innovation hub Assa Abloy has partnered with NetNodes to deliver assured and secure access to a new innovation centre in London. Based at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Plexal is a new £15 million project, acting as a base for an ‘innovation community’ that brings together startups, enterprises and academics all under one roof. The innovation hub has been fitted with Aperio wireless, access card-based locking technology, which is fully integrated with DoorFlow, an online platform for managing and auditing building access created by NetNodes. In total, 59 Aperio Providing policies and protection for PIM A review of security risks and requirements by a Evolution and the introduction of new security policy and procedure documentation, is helping Property Initiatives Management (PIM) to meet its legislative obligations and achieve best practice at One Central Square in Cardiff. The introduction of GDPR led to the Building Manager at One Central Square, John Lambert, to contact Evolution to discuss the current regulatory and compliance framework. He wanted to put in place site security system policies and procedures that were relevant, upto-date and most importantly, fully compliant. Evolution’s holistic approach to security and process began with a Security Risk Assessment and CCTV Privacy Impact Assessment on the site. This was to help PIM understand and create the necessary policies and procedures to meet its obligations regarding current legislation including GDPR, Employment Law and align to the requirements of the Surveillance Camera Commissioners Code of Practice. John says: “Once we agreed what was required, the Evolution Risk and Design team spent two days at One Central Square where they systematically probed the whys and wherefores of our security systems. In doing so they were able to provide policies and procedures that meet our compliance L100 wireless high-security door locks were installed across the site. These lock solutions provide Plexal with physical protection, and transmit information on door status to DoorFlow in real time. A further 31 HiD R10 mobile access locks were also provided where wired solutions were necessary, such as for the main office entrances, and for elevators. The system was installed at the Plexal site without cabling, and reports suggest it will reduce the innovation hub’s maintenance costs and energy consumption going forward. John Herbert, Facilities Manager at Plexal, said: “What really appealed to me about Assa Abloy Access Control’s products was the aesthetics. We have a futuristic-style open plan design here at Plexal – our offices are predominantly glassfronted, so we needed an effective stylistic design which was not only robust but adaptable too. We foresee change in the not-too-distant future and are delighted at our options to modify.” Stewart Johnson, Director at NetNodes, explains: “Plexal required an adaptable locking solution for a range of different doors and, with no wiring required, it was quick and easy to install Aperio with minimal disruption. “Should any additional doors need to be added to the system in the future, this can be done easily, without modifying or changing the aesthetics of the environment. This also minimises future installation costs, offering a straight-forward access control upgrade.” obligations, as well as providing transparency and assistance to our clients in meeting their requirements. “Following the initial interview and assessment stage, Evolution created and implemented all documentation and procedures within two weeks. The new systems in place have made things simpler, more straightforward and more secure for us and our tenants.” Evolution has worked with PIM since 2016, when it was selected to maintain their IP CCTV and access control systems at One Central Square. PIM has continued to develop the security profile of the site through the addition of further CCTV cameras and acess control doors. 42 www.psimagazine.co.uk
