CLUBS
& SOCIETIES
Evening WI
After a lovely long summer we are back to the
dark evenings but the ladies of the Evening WI
have much to look forward to. Last month we
were given an insight into Japanese flower
arranging and in November will have heard The
Confessions of a Speaker. I have a feeling that
the competition of 'something naughty' will
have provided some hilarity! After our October
AGM we are able to welcome a few extra
members on to the committee who I am sure
will bring fresh ideas for the benefit of our
members.
If you are out and about in the village please
look out for our Poppy Pebbles (to
commemorate the end of the First World War)
which can be found under the Memorial Trees
and at the War Memorials of both villages. As
well as our usual Knit & Natter and Book Club
some ladies are involved in making Beeswax
Wraps as a reusable alternative to cling film. We
are looking forward to another social Evening at
a local pub and December brings the Christmas
Tree decoration competition at Penn Church.
We are looking into the possibility of forming a
Walking Netball group.
Towards the end of November many of us
will have been to Gloucester Quays to visit the
Victorian Christmas Market. As you can see our
WI activities are many and varied so cater for
the diverse interests of our members. A
suggestion box is available to our members to
give ideas for outings and/or activities. Before
we know it will be our December meeting and
we will be bringing along food and wine to
enjoy and Rocking Around the Christmas Tree
with our entertainer Fiona Harrison.
If any of this sounds appealing to you then
why not give us a visit in the New Year? We
meet on the second Thursday of the month at
8pm in the Village Hall and you can try us out
before you commit to joining. Pat Hedley, 812645
Morning WI
As I write the first hard frost has caught the
dahlias and it would seem winter has arrived.
We had some guests coming to our 7th
birthday in November and Caley Foster
entertained us with her poems and prose. For
the first time this year we are having a
Christmas lunch and we are also entering the
Christmas tree competition again.
As our December meeting is only a week
before the Big Day we shall have another party
which proved so successful last year when
traditional games were played and cake eaten!
As an institute we have been contributing to
the new Buckinghamshire Village Book, and
our Secretary has done noble work together
with the Evening WI to make a very interesting
article which we hope will be enjoyed by many.
Come January our speaker will be talking
about the history of Royal Flying.
