Penn Patient Participation Group
Dr Coggan will be
retiring from Penn
Surgery on 31st
December, after being a
GP at the surgery for
almost 28 years. In a
letter to patients, Dr
Coggan writes, “I am
leaving now as our 3
children are independent and this therefore
opens up the opportunity for my husband and I
to work for the next 5 to 8 years in a country
that is much less fortunate than our own without
the benefits of the amazing health care we enjoy
here in this country from the NHS. I have been
privileged to work in the friendly and supportive
community of Penn and with wonderful
colleagues at Penn Surgery”. Dr Juhi Tandon
will join the practice mid-January, working
Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
The Patient Participation Group will be at the
Village Expo on 19th January. We hope you will
take the opportunity to meet us; we are always
keen to gather patients’ views. Sandra Hale
2019 Village Show: Save the Date!
Have you put the date of the 2019 Village Show
in your diary yet? The date to save is Saturday
22nd June. Being a summer the emphasis will
be for seasonal flowers, produce and baking.
The categories are; flowers, vegetables, fruit,
decorative, domestic, craft, young designers, art,
photography, family and juniors. The team have
started meeting to gather ideas for each entry
and we will keep you informed as we finalise
the details. Having said that, we will be having
sweet pea entries, judged on smell and quality in
a bunch or individually. We hope to have our
blind judge joining us again and he enjoys

smelling the flowers to choose the best.
A new idea we had this year was displaying
your own hen’s eggs which were judged on
their contents, several people that hadn’t entered
said they would enter in 2019 if we had the
category again so as you get closer to the show
start saving your eggs for the day.
Roses are always a stalwart as well as
clematis currently of year so keep nurturing
your plants for June. With the vegetables and
fruit, we have not decided on the final entries
yet, however, soft fruits such as raspberries and
strawberries are usually in abundance at that
time of year. Again, we are completely in the
hands of the weather and it is a regular topic
mentioned in the village show articles, this year
was no exception and hope the weather is kind
to us again in 2019.
Domestic classes will have marmalade, jams
and preserves, as well as bread, cake baking and
men’s cooking we hope last this year’s entrants
are inspired to participate again next year too.
Moving on to the photography and artwork, the
number of entrants continues to increase making
the choice of category or style a challenge for
the committee and we are still thinking about
the details, do keep an eye out for our articles in
the Village Voice, or look out for our Facebook
page as well.
Anyone keen to support and participate in the
preparation for the show, do get in touch, this
can be over the months or on the day.
We look forward to seeing you with your

Super Fun Run
We have begun meetings for the 2019 event,
supported charities are being discussed, and we
have plans to introduce Chip Timing to the Fun
Run. Once we have finalised the details further
details will be published in the New Year.
In the meantime, following Carols on the
Common on Thursday 20th December, in
conjunction with the Sports & Social Club, we
are having the traditional minced pies and
mulled wine, and we will present the monies
