pass, his left footed diagonal finish from 12 yards beating the keeper
Hoof.
Darlaston had a glorious opportunity to add to their goals tally on 57
minutes. Some excellent dribbling skills by Diallo saw the midfielder
burst into the penalty box as he eased past 3 defenders, unfortunately
the ball got trapped under his feet before he could get his shot off and
the visitors eventually cleared the danger. A minute later Cooper again
went close this time cutting inside and curling a right footed effort
inches past Hoof's
left-hand post.
The continual
pressure on the
visitor’s defence paid
further dividends on
64 minutes Cooper
adding his second of
the afternoon
converting a Daniel
Bolzon threaded pass
behind a static
Wellington defence to
finish from 15 yards.
Despite Wellington
being five goals
down, they continued to play football from the back through the midfield
areas. But Darlaston’s defence were in charge, not letting the visitors
pass led by captain Glasby and his central defensive partner Ryan Jones,
with Luke Charlton and Ashley Evans out wide. keeper was called into
action with a fine diving save but the visitors attacks were now rare, and
it was only a matter of time before the home side scored again which
they did on 72 minutes.
Ashley Evans made progress down the left cutting inside two defenders
before driving a low and hard cross into the penalty area for Leon Taylor
to convert at the near post from 10 yards out.
A good game played in difficult conditions but in excellent spirit was
marred on 75 minutes when Wellington centre half Jeff Watkins threw
the ball at Diallo, Diallo reacted, and a brief melee ensued with both
players being sent off.
The rest of the game was played out in good spirit both managers
making changes but neither side created any clear-cut chances.
Darlaston’s unbeaten run now extends to six games with 16 points from
18 and with Droitwich Spa and Worcester Raiders both without games
Darlaston returned to the top of the table.
