Around the League
Well we enter 2019 with all still to play for. Whilst it is fantastic
to start the year in top spot it still remains very tight with
Worcester Raiders displacing Droitwich Spa in second spot
following a 4-2 home win against Spa last Saturday. Destroyer
in chief was Richie Smith with a hat trick and a Luke Molloy goal
for the Raiders whilst Matt Hunt and James Lemon were on
target for Spa.
Sikh Hunters kept the pressure on the top three with a 3-2
home win against Bromyard Town. An early sending off for
Bromyard did their cause no good as Hunters raced into a 3-0
half time lead courtesy of a Tyrone Atkinson penalty and two
goals from Dan Jones. Bromyard rallied in the second half
despite the score line Hunters were comfortable winners.
Team Dudley remain in fifth spot, edging home 2-1 against
Wyrley. Ben Mantom gave the home side an early lead before
Tom Green equalised for Wyrley. Jack Bailey netted a second
half winner for the students. In the Shropshire derby bottom
club Telford Juniors hosted Wellington Amateurs losing to a
single goal.
Last season’s Division One top scorer Chris Brown opened the
scoring for Bustleholme at Tipton Town but former Darlaston
striker Scott Broadway equalised on 56 minutes. Bustleholme
secured all three points 8 minutes later, Oliver Clarke heading
home from a corner kick. In the only other Division One game
Allscott beat Willenhall Town by the odd goal in three.
The Wrens Nest v Newport Town was postponed following the
resignation of Newport’s management team the day before the
fixture.
In the Premier Division Tividale continue to sweep away all
before them as they followed up an 11-0 win against Smethwick
with a 6-0 away win at Cradley Town which saw the leaders
maintain a 14 point gap at the top. Unbelievably Cradley had
the best of the opening 30 minutes before Darragh Bustin
converted a penalty for the visitors. The second half was a
different story as the flood gates opened for Tividale.
Bradley Welding converted a free kick on 50 minutes and 27
