Fire rages, homes at risk
. . . are you too?
“I do both walking and
jogging and it’s just a
challenge.”
Mrs McInnes goes jogging
twice a week and likes to explore
the Harry Ell Walkway, Sign
of the Kiwi, Sign of the Takahe
and Godley Head tracks.
“Often in the past, I have
walked with friends. A friend
of mine is walking the 6km
and then we will have a coffee
afterwards,” she said.
Josiah Beach, 30, Anna
Beach, 30, and Ezra
Beach, 16, Cashmere – The
trio will take on the 14km event
this year.
Husband and wife, Josiah and
Anna, have completed the event
a handful of times previously,
but it will be Ezra’s first time
doing the 14km.
“He’s just brought some new
running shoes especially for it,”
said his older brother Josiah,
who has run up Rapaki Track
a couple of times to prepare. “I
think I’ll get really get started
on my training next month.”
Mrs Beach ran her first
City2Surf in 2009, when
training for a half marathon and
“never looked back.”
FAMILY AFFAIR: Ezra, Anna and Josiah Beach are
preparing for the City2Surf.
Ed Hogbin, 23, Strowan
– Mr Hogbin describes
himself as a “little bit of
a runner” but it will be
his first time doing the
City2Surf.
“A few years back I
did a half marathon and
thought I’d have another
crack at one this year.”
He will use this year’s
City2Surf 14km event as
Ed Hogbin
a “halfway gauge” while training
to see how on-track
he is for his next halfmarathon.
Hagley Park is his ‘goto’
spot for training two
or three times a week.
“Occasionally I spice
it with some hills and
head to the Rapaki
Track or the Halswell
Quarry.”
ICON: Better Already - The Songs Of Al Park features covers
of songs by local musicians.
Celebrating Park’s
musical legacy
FROM STARRING as a pimp
in The Dance Exponents’s video
for Victoria in 1983 to mentoring
a young Marlon Williams, Al
Park has been a part of the
Christchurch music scene for 40
years.
To celebrate Park’s contribution
to music in the region, Lyttelton
musician Delaney Davidson has
produced a new album, Better
Already - The Songs of Al Park.
The album features cover of
Park songs by musicians including
Marlon Williams, Jordan
Luck, Davidson, and Adam
McGrath.
“It’s a thank you, a very loud
and appreciative tip o’ the cap to
someone who has had a shoulder
to many wheels, a hand in many
helpings, a voice of wisdom in
many thinkings and wonderings,”
McGrath said.
In the 80s Park was the front
man of Louie and the Hotsticks.
He also ran Al’s Bar until the
building was damaged in the
February 22, 2011, earthquake.
The album launches on February
15 with a special release show
at Blue Smoke featuring Park,
Luck, McGrath, Barry Saunders,
Janice Grey, Adam Hattaway,
Anthea Struthers & Helen
Mulholland.
