Phantom Foodie
I’m sorry to disappoint all of you who seem to
enjoy the darkside of harsh honesty in the Phantom
Foodie articles, but this month is all positive!!!
If you have a suggestion for a restaurant for us
to visit, please email us through our website or
message us on our FaceBook page.
I had passed Manny’s Pizza in New Smyrna Beach
many times before I actually went in. I was with a
friend who suggested we stop there for a bite one
day and we have been back several times since,
usually late on Sunday mornings.
This place has something for everyone. As you
walk in, there is an arcade area with various
amusements, pinball machines, etc. (someday, I
will plan to have some extra time to play pinball
while I’m there). To the right at the front of the
building is a bar area (which I have never experienced
on a Sunday morning) and to the left is the
dining room. It is
simply decorated; typical diner-type interior. The
restaurant and restrooms are always clean.
The people are friendly and, at least late on Sunday
mornings, there always seems to be a large
group of regulars enjoying a meal and conversation.
Every server we have encountered has been
attentive and accommodating; we even had one
who apologized one day because she usually
works the dinner shift so she wasn’t as familiar
with breakfast.
Manny’s has an extensive menu, from breakfast
to pizza to burgers to sandwiches and - oh, stop
right there - the SANDWICHES. They don’t make
the bread there (I asked) but the bread they serve
sandwiches on is delicious. It has a nice, thin,
crispy crust and soft interior. My favorite thing
to order is the french dip sandwich; my friend
likes the grinders. He has a special way he orders
them, and Manny’s always gets the order right the
first time. I’ve also had the hamburger, which was
very good as well. The regulars seem to enjoy
breakfast - french toast, omelets, bacon and eggs.
On my next trip, I think I will try the pizza (although
I will be sorry not to have the french dip).
The prices are very reasonable and they have
great specials daily.
So, if you find yourself heading south in New
Smyrna Beach, stop in and give Manny’s a try;
they are located at 3318 S Atlantic Avenue. Grab
a beer, a snack or a meal - you’ll be glad you did!
