10 ITF title for up-and-coming Bishopdale tennis player • By Gordon Findlater Tuesday February 12 2019 PROMISING YOUNG gun Reece Falck has won his first junior International Tennis Federation title. The Bishopdale men’s premier player teamed up with Australian partner Cooper White to win the doubles title at the Tennis Canterbury ITF competition. Falck, 16, and White didn’t drop a set on their way to the final at Wilding Park, which they took out 6-4, 6-4 against the unseeded Australian pair of Enzo Aguiard and Haru Sonton. The No 3 seeded pair had a bye in the first round before defeating Pedro Papangelis and Chris Zhang 6-3, 7-6 in the second round. They accounted for Japanese duo Rui Katogi and Gaku Moriya 6-2, 7-6 in the third round. They then swept aside 10th seed pair, Ayato Arakaki from Japan and Junyi Tang from Australia, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarter-final. In the semi-final, they met Japanese No 1 seeded pair Taiyo Hirano and Ryoma Matsushita 6-2, 6-3. The 45 junior ITF ranking points Falck received for the doubles victory is his biggest haul from an event to date and moved him to a career high world OPTION junior ONE ranking of 584.
