How can you spot a son of God? One way you will know a son is that they will lay down their life for the sake of others; perhaps not on a cross, but by being selfless in many ways. (John 15:13) They may be the one who will race to a hospital in the middle of the night to sit with a worried family or friend, the one who volunteers, who is charitable, or who is helpful to a stranger in need. He or she feeds the hungry, clothes the naked and visits prisoners. They are the ones who gives of themselves and of their resources as a habit and not an exception. They bring comfort to the hurting. You will know them by their fruit, by the way that they love and the way that they lead. A son is the one who chooses the front line in a battle. They can face fear with courage and will not waver or back down. They endure even when they're weary. A son is a peacemaker amid strife, does right in all things and will lead, even if that wasn't their choice. A son is the voice for the silent and a defender of the weak. They can be trusted with secrets and give great wisdom in counsel. A son is more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus. “Ye are gods.” Oh, I know that this will make many of you cringe. It did me at first too, but I have scripture for your perusal. Lets start with Exodus 7:1 And the Lord said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet. God made Moses a god to Pharaoh. I didn't say that, the Bible did. Could it mean that Moses was God's representative and spoke only what the LORD said to speak to Pharaoh? Sure. Maybe there was some issue with the translation? Maybe, but as sons, aren't we also to be His representatives and speak His Word too?... Absolutely. Here we go, let's look at another one... God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; He judgeth among the gods... I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High. Psalm 82 verses 1&6 Another translation flaw? Perhaps, it could be translated as judges. The children of the most High are gods? Notice again that I didn't say that, Psalm 82 did. Either way, God has appointed men to positions of authority in which they are considered as gods among the people. There's that word “authority” again. Jesus has ALL authority. Jesus also cited this same scripture when He was threatened with stoning. The Jews answered Him, saying, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.” Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ’? If He called them gods, to whom the 10
Word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” John 10:33-38 “If He called them gods, to whom the Word of God came”...the Word came for US! In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us. (John 1) For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son. (John 3:16). “I said, You are gods.” Jesus said that! If a man has a son, it's a man. If a horse has a son, it's a horse, right? If a chimpanzee has a son, it's a chimp off the ole' block, are you with me? If God has a son.... Is the light bulb coming on yet?... a god? At least own that you are a son of God. I'm not sure what eternity will look like, but I do have trouble wrapping my head around it. I once heard a preacher say that if there was a steel ball bearing the size of the Earth and once every ten thousand years a dove was released and its wing just barely brushed up against it in one pass before going away for another ten thousand years, that even after that ball bearing was worn completely away by feathers, eternity would just be getting started. I think I would want something important and meaningful to do with all of that time! You know, God created innumerable stars and planets within the vast universe. Perhaps there is a planet out there with every son of God's name on it. I can tell you now, after I've visited loved ones to my heart's content and spent plenty of time with all of those I long to meet and have been abundantly satisfied to enjoy all of the splendor of my heavenly home where I will forever retain citizenship, this son would rather enjoy squaring up to a planet that was without form and void and, with my Father smiling and looking on behind me, I would love to call forth from the darkness of space, “Light be!” 11
