Hi & welcome. For this <strong>Newsletter</strong> we decided to devote almost the entire edition to technology<br />

and our service department as there’s never been so much news to tell you about. Almost all of it is<br />

driven by technology changes, designed to make driving a Škoda more convenient & efficient.<br />

Škoda is set to launch three new models this year here in the UK, the Scala, Kamiq & Citigo BEV<br />

plus a number of extra trims including Kodiaq vRS, Octavia Sportline, Octavia SE Drive & Octavia<br />

vRS Challenge as well as committing to Superb hybrid & the all electric Vision E next year.<br />

As Škoda grows each year so does our team. Over the last 12 months both our Sales & Service<br />

teams have recruited additional members to deal with demand & the complexities that come with<br />

greater volumes. This week we welcome Bradley Tye, our third new starter this year, who is our<br />

first Trainee Sales Executive.<br />

Our Service department, led by Chris Harrison, has recently embraced a plethora of advancements<br />

and technology. We have installed a new Service reminder system bringing greater personalization<br />

and accuracy to service dates. We now offer Service Plans and have a system to quote tailored<br />

monthly costings for servicing & MOT’s. Citnow will text you a link to a video of our Technician<br />

explaining a fault on your vehicle and explaining the repair required. In November we won the<br />

contract to service & maintain over 100 Cleveland Police cars of all makes & models.<br />

Again this year we are supporting Teesside Hospice through our fundraising and your donations,<br />

from using our unique courtesy car policy, where providing you have a valid Privilege Card, we<br />

provide you a courtesy car FOC in return for a small donation.<br />

SERVICE NOTIFICATION CHANGES<br />

Historically we sent you service reminders by post, this is<br />

changing.<br />

We have introduced a new customer notification system that<br />

due to technology advances is sophisticated enough to use your<br />

vehicle registration number to look at your specific vehicle historic<br />

data such as age and mileage to predict future events like service<br />

& MOT dates, our old system was a one size fits all approach.<br />

Additionally, the new system is clever enough to use your chassis<br />

number to identify if your vehicle has a cam belt (opposed to<br />

a timing chain) and predict when it needs changing. It can also<br />

identify if you have an automatic transmission and therefore the<br />

date the gearbox oil change is required or likewise if you have a<br />

four wheel drive and need the Haldex oil changing.<br />

Moving forward we will contact you in this order;<br />

1. email which will look like the one illustrated here which will<br />

have a subject line something like: ‘Your service is due - let’s get<br />

it sorted’. It will be from Škoda no-reply@skoda.co.uk.<br />

2. Text. If you don’t respond to the email, your next notification<br />

will be by text which will look like the one illustrated here.<br />

3. Post. If you don’t respond to the first two methods of contact,<br />

we will send you a reminder in the post. We leave this as a last<br />

resort to minimise environmental impact.<br />

Don’t worry if you don't have an email address. We<br />

appreciate that some customers are at different levels<br />

of ability using technology to others (we certainly are<br />

here amongst our team) but technology isn’t going<br />

away & affects our lives more each day, if you would<br />

like help arranging an email account or how to find e<br />

mails in spam or junk or enabling content then simply<br />

contact us. Jess is our Škoda Media Expert but has a<br />

team of helpers that will be delighted to help<br />

EMERGENCY SERVICE<br />

Derek Slack Motors has enjoyed a strong<br />

relationship with the area's emergency<br />

services for over 20 years.<br />

Last July, we supplied Cleveland Fire Brigade<br />

with 14 new Octavia Scout Estate Cars and they<br />

were so pleased with them, the brigade have<br />

ordered another 5 this year already.<br />

Karen Winter, from Cleveland Fire Brigade said,<br />

“This deal has allowed us to standardise our<br />

fleet and provide vital vehicles to our Flexible<br />

Duty Officers, so they are able to respond to<br />

incidents quickly and safely and in all types of<br />

conditions, as these cars have 4x4 ability. It is<br />

very important to Cleveland Fire Brigade that<br />

we work with local businesses and ensure that<br />

we are getting value for money. This addition to<br />

our fleet allows us to continue supporting safer,<br />

stronger communities across Cleveland.”<br />

Derek Slack Motors have been awarded the<br />

Cleveland Police maintenance contract for<br />

Middlesbrough. Tony Slack said in December:<br />

“We are delighted to have won the contract<br />

and really look forward to repairing the vehicles<br />

and keeping them on the roads to support<br />

the local community. Winning this contract<br />

will mean additional staff appointments. We<br />

support apprentices and currently have a local<br />

apprentice training to be a technician.”<br />

Barry Coppinger, Cleveland’s Police and Crime<br />

Commissioner, said: “We’re looking forward to<br />

working with excellent local suppliers. Police<br />

vehicles have to be on the road every day of the<br />

year and the contract allows us to work with<br />

garages who can provide fast, priority service.”<br />

3 NEW ŠKODA MODELS<br />

The name for Škoda’s new small SUV has<br />

now been officially revealed, the KAMIQ,<br />

Inuit for something that fits as perfectly as a<br />

second skin in every situation.<br />

The KAMIQ is an urban crossover model, a<br />

compact and lifestyle-oriented entry-level<br />

vehicle, combining the agility and handling<br />

of a compact car with the traditional<br />

advantages of an SUV - higher seating<br />

position, better visibility, easier to get in<br />

and out, and higher ground clearance. The<br />

KAMIQ features a new interior concept,<br />

complete with large freestanding touch<br />

screen media panel. The optional virtual<br />

cockpit features one of the largest displays<br />

in the segment at 10.25 inches. The KAMIQ<br />

offers generous interior space and plenty<br />

of legroom for rear passengers thanks to<br />

the 2,651-millimetre wheelbase. The boot<br />

volume is 400 litres, increasing to 1,395 litres<br />

with the rear seat backrests folded down.<br />

The world premiere of the new Škoda<br />

KAMIQ takes place at the Geneva Motor<br />

Show between 5 and 17 March <strong>2019</strong>.<br />

Škoda will produce battery-electric vehicles<br />

from 2020, and will soon focus entirely on<br />

electric mobility with the most extensive<br />

investment program in its history.<br />

Production of the CITIGO battery electric<br />

vehicle (BEV), the brand’s first all-electric<br />

model, will start in <strong>2019</strong>. In the same year,<br />

the SUPERB plug-in hybrid electric vehicle<br />

(PHEV), Škoda’s first plug-in hybrid model,<br />

will be running off the assembly line.<br />

Production of the VISION E, our purely<br />

electric model will follow in 2020.<br />

By 2025 Škoda will have a total of 10<br />

electrified models on the market and<br />

will invest around two billion euros into<br />

electromobility and new<br />

mobile services.<br />

The SCALA completely redefines the<br />

compact car segment for ŠKODA.<br />

The hatchback combines an emotive<br />

design with a high level of functionality<br />

as well as state-of-the-art connectivity.<br />

In addition, the SCALA offers a high level of<br />

active and passive safety, full-LED headlights<br />

and tail lights, plenty of space for luggage<br />

and passengers, as well as numerous<br />

Simply Clever features. It will be launched<br />

onto the market in the first half of <strong>2019</strong>.<br />
