Message from the President
Dear HBA Members,
By now everyone should be well recovered from the “Polar
Vortex” that hit us at the end of January. It is a timely
reminder that the weather is never truly predictable, and
in an industry that is so
incredibly susceptible
to even slight weather
changes, extreme weather
like we endured can be
a true challenge for even
the most experienced
contractors. A positive
to take away from these
events is the value
of membership and
teamwork. On several
occasions I either
personally witnessed or
heard firsthand about members helping each other out to
prepare as much as possible for the unprecedented cold.
They were lending equipment or manpower to assist others
out and generally being good neighbors to one another. For
that, everyone should be commended!
The start of our Spring market has now been kicked-off
by yet another successful Home Show. The variety of
vendors and diversity of attendees allowed everyone to
see new things from a multitude of different perspectives.
The opportunity to view upcoming trends and learn from
industry experts is always a fun time. It also gets us in
the mood to start thinking about better weather, which
is always welcome. Spring is also a good point during
the year to take some time to clean up clutter. Whether
its cleaning at home, cleaning up your shop and trailers
or getting ready for the always “fun” tax preparation,
a little de-cluttering and organizing goes a long way
toward keeping busy and destressing at the same time.
Some energy also can be channeled into smaller projects
before the market is in full swing and working on closing
deadlines and more will be everyone’s priority.
On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, I would like to
wish everyone the very best of luck and as much prosperity
as you can handle during the coming year. While talk of a
potential slowdown is creeping into the national narrative,
at present our local economy is still humming along and we
continue to expand and grow. It is nice to live in an area that
appreciates and rewards hard work and quality. In business
and in life, we can’t control every situation, but we can
control how motivated we are and how much we care about
the job we are doing. As a valued member of our association,
you reflect the true success one can have by not just showing
up for work every day but showing up and caring about
your job. If we maintain that commitment, we will continue
to grow and be an example of a job well done!
Sincerely,
Mike Bails
