Do You Really Need Breakfast?<br />

You may or may not have heard of this concept before<br />

but if you haven’t let me introduce you to Intermittent<br />

Fasting (IF), how it works and why I love it!<br />

When I began learning about this concept, it was difficult<br />

believing this way of eating could be so beneficial. Skipping<br />

breakfast, letting hours go by without eating!? No<br />

way!? But after doing lots of research and practicing Intermittent<br />

Fasting for several years, I can share how IF can make reaching<br />

your fitness goals a bit easier by turning on your body’s fat burning<br />

mode and help you become healthier.<br />

So what type of “diet” is this, might you ask? Well, it’s not a diet<br />

it’s actually a pattern. Intermittent Fasting is an eating pattern that<br />

cycles between periods of fasting and eating. It does not give you particular<br />

foods you should eat, but rather when you should eat. Don’t<br />

let the term “fasting” scare you. Fasting actually allows the body to<br />

function more efficiently and literally helps turn your body into a fat<br />

burning machine. Not only is it super beneficial for fat burning, it has<br />

other amazing health benefits as well. IF is efficient at lowering insulin<br />

resistance (perfect for people concerned about Type 2 Diabetes).<br />

It helps reduce stress and inflammation in the body, which is beneficial<br />

in helping to starve cancer cells. IF also backs the research of<br />

lowering your risk of Alzheimer’s (something that runs on both sides<br />

of my family) and increases brain health and function. Personally, I<br />

think more clearly and have much more energy before I put food in<br />

my body. Go figure, right? The list of health benefits goes on and on.<br />

In addition, IF allows to simplify your eating. I am no longer consumed<br />

with food and what and when I need to be eating. Life just<br />

seems a little simpler when you aren’t worried about breakfast<br />

while getting kids and yourself out of the house. A feat any busy<br />

person can understand. What does skipping breakfast have to do<br />

with all of this? Skipping breakfast extends the amount of time that<br />

you are in the fasting state. While you are sleeping your body is<br />

in a fasting state. That’s why breakfast is called “break-fast.” Skipping<br />

breakfast extends the time your body is in fat burning mode.<br />

Experts recommend fasting for at least 16 hours from the time of<br />

your last meal. So if you ate dinner at 7pm your next meal should<br />

be at 11am the following day. By letting your body “fast” and giving<br />

it a break from being fed constantly it allows for amazing health<br />

benefits to start taking place.<br />

There are several different methods/ways to incorporate Intermittent<br />

Fasting into your lifestyle. This is not a one size fits all type<br />

of plan and there are many different methods to suit individual<br />

needs. Do some research and find a version that will work best with<br />

your needs, goals and lifestyle.<br />
