Getting fit for
• By Jess Gibson
AFTER A lifetime of low
self-esteem and a fear of injuries,
Jennine White felt unfit,
vulnerable and afraid to work
out.
Now the 33-year-old
performance reporting analyst
will take part in the 6km
City2Surf run on March 24
feeling better than ever.
Mrs White decided to focus on
her health in November after a
visit to her doctor to talk about
a shoulder injury turned into a
discussion about how her lack
of fitness was affecting her wellbeing.
Her doctor recommended
the ‘green prescription’, a free
programme which offers advice
from a physical activity coach.
She received a plan from her
coach Olivia Maisey and gained
the confidence to participate
in the City2Surf after she was
encouraged to see a personal
trainer, get injury rehabilitation
and see a life coach.
Mrs White is now positive she
can push herself to do the 6km
event if she alternates between a
brisk walk and a jog to take care
of her injury.
While she has finished with
the green prescription, she
said Miss Maisey has been like
her “cheerleader”. She said her
personal trainer, life coach,
family and friends have all helped
her to stay motivated.
“People like me need someone
in our corner and someone to
help us fight through to get a
better lifestyle,” she said.
Mrs White said she is focussed
on her well-being rather
than losing weight, and feels
“amazing” because of it.
“My mental health is so much
better, I have reduced anxiety
and sleep so well. I feel like I’m
on another planet now,” said Mrs
White.
Miss Maisey said it was good to
see how extra support can make a
difference to someone’s lifestyle.
School’s junior cricket team will
head to Palmerston North to
take on the country’s best at the
They booked their spot at the
competition by defeating Nelson
College by 41 in the regional
final at Burnside Park last week.
Batting first CBHS scored 180
where opening batsman and
captain Robbie Foulkes laid a
good platform, while wicketkeeper
batsman Easton Stocks
also made a healthy contribution.
They then completed the job
by bowling out the opposition
for 139 to book a spot at the
competition they last won in
2015.
“They’re really pleased,” said
coach Rob Smith.
“They’re a committed group
and are looking forward to
testing themselves against the
country’s best schools.”
CBHS also had wins over
Christ’s College in the regional
quarter-final and Timaru Boys’
High School in the regional semifinal.
The 14-man team of Liam Astle,
