Who has missed the most meetings?
• By Julia Evans
REPRESENTING the city has
caused Mayor Lianne Dalziel to
have the lowest attendance rate at
council meetings over the term
so far.
Figures released for all city
council, community board and
committee meetings from the
start of the term in October
2016 to December 2018 show
Ms Dalziel attended 60 out of 75
council meetings.
But Ms Dalziel said of those
missed meetings, there was
only three days personal leave,
including time to support her
husband Rob Davidson, who is
suffering from prostate cancer,
and two days professional
development.
“The rest involve representing
the council or Christchurch
International Airport Ltd in an
official capacity.”
That included attending
the official opening of Haeata
with then prime minister Sir
Bill English, visiting sister city
Songpa Gu in South Korea
and the announcement for the
Convention Centre.
Overall attendance around
the council table was high. City
councillor Pauline Cotter was the
sole member to get 100 per cent,
attending all 75 meetings.
Another five councillors –
Vicki Buck, Mike Davidson,
Anne Galloway, Jamie Gough
and Deon Swiggs – missed one
meeting and all except Raf Manji
attended more than 70.
Cr Manji made it to 69. He is
the only city councillor who has
indicated he will not run for his
seat in the October local body
election.
Bit it was a different for some
members of the city’s seven
community boards, which meet
once a fortnight.
Linwood-Central-Heathcote
Community Board member
Brenda Lowe-Johnson made
it to 33 out of 45 meetings. Ms
Lowe-Johnson, who is also the
Collective for the Homeless
co-ordinator, has served on the
board for 15 years and is retiring
at the end of the term.
“For all the other terms, my
“I do miss some of the
agenda and if it’s a particularly
big issue, I will let the chair know
of my opinion so he can take that
Mr Paranjape said he felt
being present in the community,
the peace, was just as valuable as
attending meetings.
