at Waikirikiri Hockey<br />
WAIKIRIKIRI Hockey says<br />
workmates and other groups<br />
looking for a team-building<br />
activity should join its five-a-side<br />
social league.<br />
The games are played at the<br />
Foster Park Turf in Rolleston on<br />
Wednesday nights during terms<br />
2, 3 and 4.<br />
Waikirikiri Hockey runs two<br />
grades, which cater for both<br />
competitive and social players.<br />
The main focus of the social<br />
hockey grades is to give players<br />
with various skill levels a chance<br />
to play and also feel part of the<br />
community.<br />
Social grade one is for teams<br />
with a bit of a competitive edge<br />
and is ideal for people who have<br />
played before.<br />
Social grade two provides<br />
a fun and healthy activity to<br />
enjoy as a team. It is ideal for<br />
adults who want to give hockey<br />
a go or just want to come back<br />
to the sport after a period of<br />
downtime.<br />
Each team must have a<br />
minimum of one female on the<br />
field at all times.<br />
During term four, Waikirikiri<br />
Hockey also runs junior social<br />
hockey for students and pupils in<br />
years 3-4, 5-6 and 7-8.<br />

offers social hockey grades.<br />
The young players involved also<br />
get the chance to play with their<br />
friends as they can put their own<br />
team together.<br />

Rolleston College mates get one<br />
over adults on basketball court<br />

A GROUP of year 11 Rolleston<br />
College mates with a passion for<br />
basketball have proven they can<br />
foot it on the court with adults.<br />
In what was preparation for<br />
the secondary school season,<br />
which starts later this month,<br />
the team known as The Raptors<br />
won the silver medal in the<br />
Action Indoor Sports adult<br />
social competition.<br />
Coach Andre Tessarolo said<br />
just making the final was above<br />
their expectations at the start of<br />
the campaign.<br />
“Playing against adults was<br />
initially a big step up for the<br />
boys, not only mentally but<br />
physically,” he said.<br />
“They had to get used to being<br />
bumped around regularly.”<br />
He said the teammates are<br />
all good friends, which made it<br />
easier to pass on his knowledge.<br />
“They’ve been really<br />
committed and we’ve worked<br />
together on the weekends,”<br />
Tessarolo said.<br />
He said his aim was to play<br />
as few minutes as possible and<br />
let the team figure it out as they<br />
played.<br />
“Hopefully it’s the start of<br />
some good results for the boys,”<br />
he said.<br />
