A-Ibom goes tough on indiscriminate
refuse dumping

UYO—AKWA Ibom
State Government
has warned against
indiscriminate dumping of
refuse on major streets of
Uyo, the state capital,
saying those caught in the
act would be arrested and
prosecuted.

Management Agency,
AKSEPAWMA, Akpan
Ikim gave the warning
while responding to
questions on a live radio
interview yesterday in Uyo.
He noted that sanitary
agents have been
mobilised for the task.
He said: “With the
environmental health
officers that we have, we
have already restructured
a whole lot and the
enforcement officers are on
the streets now, so anyone
caught littering the
environment would be
arrested and prosecuted.
“The issue of throwing
waste from the car would
be a thing of the past. We
have set aside 6a.m.,
to7p.m., to evacuate
refuses and any person
caught dumping refuse
after that will be arrested.”
On the non availability of
receptacles in some
strategic places within the
state capital, Ikim disclosed
that government had
partnered a Chinese
company to supply more
and bigger receptacles
especially as the population
of Uyo continues to
expand and grow.

Okowa and Speaker of the
state House of Assembly,
Sheriff Oborevwori,
yesterday, condoled with
the family of late Senator
Adegor Eferakeya, who
passed on Tuesday at 78
years.
The duo in separate
statements, described the
renowned Professor of
Pharmacology and
Toxicology as a prominent
Urhobo son whose service
would be missed by all.
Okowa in a statement by
his Chief Press Secretary,
Mr Charles Aniagwu, also
commiserated with the
people of Delta Central
senatorial district, the
Urhobo nation, Deltans, as
well as political associates
and friends of the deceased.
According to him, the late
Senator, who represented
as the member of the state
House of Assembly
representing Ekeremor
Constituency 1.
The succession battle,
which provoked tension
among Ijaw youths under
the Central Zone, was
due to the non-availability
of transition plan and who
Delta Central senatorial
district in the 6th Senate,
was a renowned medical
practitioner in Amukpe-
Sapele where he lived a life
of service to God and the
nation.
The governor
commended the late
Senator’s disposition to
serve the people and the
nation whenever he was
called upon, while always
promoting democratic
values and culture among
his people.
Also, Oborevwori in a
statement by his Chief
Press Secretary, Mr Dennis
Otu said; “The news of the
demise of a prominent
Urhobo son and a
respected chief in Okpe
Kingdom, Senator
Eferakeya came to me as a
rude shock.
“We are surely going to
miss him. I pray God to
grant his soul eternal
rest and the family the
fortitude to bear the
irreparable loss.”
Ikim urged residents to
see last Saturday
Sanitation exercise which
begin by 7a.m., and end
by 10a.m., as a collective
responsibility aimed at
ensuring homes are clean
and healthy.
He maintained that
government has
restructured all apparatus
including waste
to replace the elevated

central zone.
The Elders’ Advisory

Chairmanship of Mike
Wenobowei, had set up a
10-man committee
headed by Elder Warri
Welman to shop for a
credible replacement from
the Sagbama/Ekeremor
axis to complete the
remaining months of his
tenure.
Speaking in Yenagoa,
while submitting the seven
pages report to the IYC
Elders’ Advisory Council,
Chairman of the
Committee, Warri Ombu,
noted that the committee
consulted widely and
superior argument
prevailed and it was zoned
to Ekeremor area, where
three candidates, Ebilade
Ekerefe, Miss Emi Egbe
and Thomas Tenkiri
emerged. Following the
records process, Thomas
Tenkiri emerged as a
worthy successor. “
The Committee, in its
report also recommended
that “The outgoing
Chairman of the IYC,
Central Zone should be
honoured with a
comprehensive send-forth
programme and be
properly consulted towards
a successful exit and
handover on or before April
19, 2019.”
Receiving the document
from the Committee,
Chairman of the Elders’
Advisory Council, Mike

good faith and to save IYC
Central Zone,'' he said.
It was gathered that
some factions of the IYC
central zone had
wrongfully claimed that
some members of the IYC
central zone executives
had the ambition and
were scheming to take
over from Porri, who had
insisted that he was not
under any constitutional
obligation to resign his
appointment.
It was also learned that
the Chairman of the Elders’
Advisory Council,
Wenibowei, was accused of
working with the accused
to undermine the interest
of Porri.
Tari Porri in response
announced that the
dissolution of the advisory
council and removed
Wenibowei from his
position, saying the elder
stepped beyond his
bounds.
Porri said the position of
central zone chairmanship
of IYC was zoned to the
Western part of the state,
adding that if he decided
to resign voluntarily,
someone from the West
would take over from him
and complete his tenure.
Delta Chief Judge pardons
206 inmates

WARRI—AS part of
efforts to decongest
Nigerian prisons, Delta
State Chief Judge, Justice
Marshal Mukoro has
released a total of 206
inmates across the prisons
in the state.
Justice Mukoro disclosed
this in a remark during his
prison visit to Warri.
The Chief Judge said
2,613 cases were reviewed
in the process. He
explained that of the
number, 18 were granted
bail, while 206 were
released.
Mukoro also said that in
Warri, 875 inmates
(warrant) were also
reviewed, adding that
seven were granted bail
and 56 released.
Justice Mukoro said the
ages of those released
range between 17 and 25
years.
According to him, “This
is very worrisome. It shows
family values are broken. It
shows many parents are
not responsible.”
He urged parents to take
proper care and train their
children very well.
Mukoro stressed that
many adults are not
exhibiting good examples
for youths.
He also enjoined faith
based organisations as well
as political leaders to
ensure that youths are
properly nurtured.
Ukori chides Edo Commissioner
over comment On Egbema

has chided the
commissioner of
Communication and
Orientation, Edo State, Paul
Ohonbamu on his
comments that Egbema
people are strangers to the
Benin people.
Recalled that Ohonbamu
had last week said in one
of the national dailies that
there was a Supreme Court
Judgment that gave the
entire Egbema land to the
Oba of Benin, adding that
it was because they heard
that there will be
development of seaport in
Gelegele, that prompted
the Egbema people to insist
they want their own king.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of
Delta State to collaborate
with Niger Delta
Development Commission,
NDDC, and other agencies
to ensure the completion of
Ojobo-Bomadi-Gbekebor
Road project.
Kalanama VIII noted that
the ongoing construction of
the Bomadi-Gbekebor
section of the road had
dragged on for so long,
therefore, required
collaborative effort between
the state government and
the NDDC.

of the Akugbene-Mein

Ojobo-Bomadi-Gbekebor road
project
