MTN says following this, a team was dispatched into the communities to authenticate and verify the stories of the people and their projects. Following the verifications process, a report will be presented for further review of the projects and the top 10 selected by an independent panel of judges who have diverse experience and expertise in academia, communications and economics. The top 10 projects will be filmed and featured in a 13-week television series which seeks to highlight the activities of the heroes to the public. At the end of the television programme, an event will be held to announce the ultimate hero and category winners. •Flashback: A previous winner (left) receiving her award The handlers of the initiative say the ultimate winner will be presented with a cash prize of GH¢100,000.00 whilst the three category winners will be awarded GH¢30,000.00 each to be invested in their projects for wider impact. MTN Ghana Foundation says it will also present special awards to selected media personnel and young heroes who are also driving change in their respective areas. Commenting on the entries, Mr Samuel Koranteng, the Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, said, “We are happy to be getting closer to selecting the finalists for the TV series. We look forward to showcasing the work of unsung heroes who have dedicated their lives and resources to the service of their communities.” Launch of Heroes of Change Season 5 MTN Heroes of Change Season 5 was launched in November 2018 and submission of entries ended on January 25, 2019. Since the inception of MTN Heroes of Change in July 2013, a total of 40 people have been identified and recognized on MTN Heroes of Change platform for committing their personal resources to improve their communities and brighten lives. Four out of the total number emerged ultimate winners. They are Dr Abrokwa-Yenkyera, a plastic surgeon and founder of Grafts Foundation; Madam Paulina Opei, founder of Save our Lives Orphanage; Genevieve Basigha, founder of Research Utilization School for the Deaf; and Naomi Esi Amoah of Blessed Home Orphanage MTN Heroes of Change has won several awards. The awards include the 2016 IPR Best Community Relations Programme of the Year and the CSR Program of the Year 2015 by the Head of State Awards (HoSA) Scheme. Farid Antar heads Republic Bank THE BOARD of Directors of Republic Bank (Ghana) Limited has announced the appointment of Mr Farid Antar as the Managing Director of the Bank following receipt of regulatory approval from the Bank of Ghana. He succeeds Mr Anthony Jordan, who retired from active service in April 2019. Mr Antar is an experienced banker with over 39 years of professional and practical exposure in the banking and financial services industry in Trinidad & Tobago and in Barbados, both in the Caribbean. Prior to this appointment, he was the General Manager - Enterprise Risk Management and Chief Risk Officer at Republic Financial Holdings Limited, the parent company of Republic Bank (Ghana) Limited. He previously served as General Manager - Corporate Operations & Process Improvement, Senior Manager - Regional Operations (Overseas), Senior Manager - Business Transformation, Senior Manager - Retail Delivery & Marketing, Manager - Product Parameterisation & Business Growth, and Marketing Manager - Personal & Commercial Lendings. Mr Antar, until recently, was also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Republic Caribbean Investments Limited, Atlantic Financial Limited and Republic Bank (Suriname) Holdings Limited; a Director of G4S Holdings (Trinidad) Limited and the London Street Project Company Limited; and a Trustee for the Caribbean Court of Justice Trust Fund (CCJTF). He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB), Trinidad & Tobago and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (ICSA), UK. He is also an Anti-Money Laundering Certified Associate (AMLCA). He is expected to continue the transformation process started by his predecessors with the view to growing Republic Bank (Ghana) Limited into a Tier 1 bank in Ghana. Judge everyone and everything for yourself —Henry James Prez calls on political leaders to be sincere PRESIDENT NANA Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo has called on political leaders to be sincere in their dealings with the people and tell the truth about their achievements. President Akufo-Addo said politicians must not resort to deceit about with non-existent record of events and projects for political gains. He said this when a 28-man delegation from the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs called on him at the Jubilee House in Accra. Led by the Tumu Kuoro, Babini Kanton VI, who is also the President of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs, the delegation was at the Presidency to discuss a number of concerns and challenges pertaining to the area, chief among them being the poor nature of roads. The delegation appealed to President Akufo-Addo to facilitate the passage of the University of Development Studies (UDS) Autonomous Campuses Bill into law. They also entreated the President to look into the timely completion of the Wa Regional Hospital to enhance healthcare delivery in the Region. The traditional leaders further requested the speeding up of the Wa Airport project to enable the carriers to operate commercial flights to the region. The President assured them that their concerns would be addressed in due course. Police gives details on killing of NDC chairman POLICE INVESTIGATORS in the Upper West Region have confirmed the death of Mr Poulabong Bayiilela Richard, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman for the Dafiama- Bussie-Issa Constituency, detailing how it all happened. According to them, at about 10:30 p.m on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, one Desmond Atingani was driving a Mercedes-Benz car with registration number GW 3366-Y from Kojokperi to Wa with four persons, including Richard, on board it. They said the car was intercepted by four robbers but the driver failed to stop leading to the bandits’ shooting and killing of Richard, aged 45, who was seated beside the driver. The driver sustained gunshot wounds and was admitted to the Upper West Regional Hospital for treatment while the body of Richard was deposited at the morgue for preservation, pending autopsy.
