The series, which forms part of ‘Good Life, Live it Well’ initiative, is a campaign that promotes positive health behaviours in a wide variety of health areas that include reproductive health, malaria prevention, and nutrition through both traditional and digital media. YOLO TV series, since its launch in 2015 by the National Population Council, has the aim to educate the youth on healthy reproductive behaviour and equip them with skills to deal with peer pressure and the other challenges that affect their everyday lives. Ambassador Sullivan, at the premiere held in Silverbird Cinemas, West Hills Mall, said YOLO was one of Ghana’s most popular shows and that she was very proud of the fact that it was an example of the commitment of the U.S and Ghana to improve the health and well-being of the world’s greatest resource, which is the youth. She explained that the series, ranked as one of the most influential TV programmes in Ghana that have not only provided a platform to reach young people with key information on healthy behaviours and practices but also helped to shape the actors to become reproductive health ambassadors. “The show’s stars serve as peer educators and role models, and promote healthy lifestyles to their numerous young social media followers. Youth participation and youth leadership is vital to development and can contribute to more sustainable investments to end cycles of poverty; build resilient, democratic societies; improve •Ambassador Stephanie S. Ambassador Sullivan commended the government of Ghana, especially the National Population Council, the Ghana Health Service and the media partners, for their leadership in making adolescent health a priority. Mr Ivan Quashigah, producer and director of YOLO, said they had introduced in season five series young adolescent characters that relate to their target audience. He explained that the other characters that were not seen in the season five would come in the next series as and when they were needed. Celebrities like Adjetey Annang, Jackie Appiah, Aaron Adatsi, and Queenstar Annafi graced the occasion. Rawlings condemns brutal Amasaman police assault BY KENT MENSAH FORMER PRESIDENT Rawlings has condemned the brutal assault on a police man at Amasaman a few days ago, stating that to assault a man in uniform in such a manner is an indictment on our society and totally unjustifiable. “It is painful the extent to which a policeman was badly beaten to the point that you could hardly see his eyes. What could have justified that? What stopped us from literally arresting him if the situation warranted it and leading him to a police station? “To disrespect a lawman and to even go as far as to assault him to the extent that was done was going too far,” the former President said. Former President Rawlings raised the concern when he received the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Sharabutu at his office and called on him to pray against such impunity. “No one is perfect and I know the burden that the police generally carry. Things are tough and they carry a heavy burden. The means to do their work effectively is inadequate and they are doing their best. Assuming 30 per cent of the police were to decide not to put in their best, can you imagine the confusion we will have? Let’s imagine a situation without the police; we will be much worse. It could be an uncontrollable situation,” he explained. He called on the National Chief Imam to pray against such lawless impunity. Empire Entertainment, organizers of the event, made this known at an event held at the Tang Palace Hotel, Accra last Friday. Victor AD and Creamy will join fellow Nigerian artistes Wande Coal and Teni while Medikal, Narh Na (formerly Akoo Nana), Kofi Mole, Quamina MP, Coco and others will join the Ghanaian side for the battle. Artistes from Barbados, Canada and other countries are also expected to perform. Obligation, who started his music career last year, says he was once a rapper and challenged himself to do Gospel dancehall and that currently he has a new song dubbed ‘Speedy Recovery’. I will tell anyone who looks up to me to stay focused and never lose hope. “I will love to feature Shatta Wale, Medikal or Kwesi Arthur on my songs soon.” Afro Nation enlists Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, others for Dec. festival BY ERICA ARTHUR AFRO NATION, an event that seeks to promote Africa music, has chosen to host this year’s event in Ghana at the Labama Beach Resort and so has enlisted some great African heavy weight artistes to entertain patrons from December 27 – 30, 2019. Alkaline, Burna Boy, Davido, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Wizkid, Kidi, Kuami Euguene, La Meme Gang, Naira Marley, Not3s, Teni, The Compozers, Wendi Shay, Yemi Alade, Yxng Bane, and more others to be announced soon. DJ Vyrusky, DJ Obi and Distruction Boyz have been listed as official jocks for the event. More performers will be announced in subsequent rollouts. According to organizers, Afro Nation promises to be the biggest music and arts festival in Ghana this year as they hope of pulling at least 15,000 patrons. Speaking to the organizers they said “they will be dropping to the minute feeds between now and during the festival. Laboma Beach Resort, a very vast and clean coastline, with a capacity for an audience of over 40,000, is the holding grounds for Afro Nation Ghana. The event starts from December 27 to December 30, 2019. The four-day festival will celebrate different music genres amongst which are Afro-beats, Hip-hop, UK Rap, Reggae and Dancehall on the serene coastline of Accra, Ghana. #AfroNation is an all-inclusive music and arts festival meant to celebrate and eulogize African culture across various continents, not just Africa. Afro Nation, however, stages in Portugal for the European wave in the summer this year. The four-day festival will celebrate different music genres amongst which are Afro-beats, Hip-hop, UK Rap, Reggae and Dancehall on the serene coastline of Accra, Ghana.
