Almost everyone looks
forward to summer, and
it’s no surprise why: Perpetually
sunny skies, gentle
breezes and blooming
florae are enough to put
even the most devout curmudgeon
in a good mood.
But here in Tinley Park,
the allure of summertime
extends well beyond mere
seasonal pleasantries to
include the diverse offering
of sensational events
occurring downtown every
week. Residents and
visitors alike make events
— such as, the Music in
the Plaza concerts, the
tropical-themed Tinley
Park Block Party, the
weekly Cruise Nights and
the Benches on the Avenue
public art program — part
of their annual summer
routine.
The Village recently
broke ground on Harmony
Square, a public plaza
at Oak Park Avenue and
North Street, located immediately
behind Teehan’s
Tavern, that will provide
fun activities all year-long,
including winter, thanks to
a built-in concert stage, ice
rink, splash pad, lawn area
and shade structures.
Once open, Harmony
Square will be the primary
place where everyone
gathers to participate
in Tinley Park’s events,
regardless of the season.
Until then, residents and
visitors will be able to
continue enjoying Village
events at Zabrocki
Plaza and the Oak Park
Avenue train station parking
lot. While parking lots
and road access will be
limited at times during
construction of Harmony
Square, events will continue
as scheduled, and
any detours or alternate
routes will be posted on
