THE HALSWELL Quarry<br />

hosted 1353 children from<br />

schools throughout the region in<br />

the Primary Sports Canterbury<br />

cross-country last week.<br />

All competitors qualified for<br />

the event through their school<br />

and then through their zone.<br />

The year 5 boys race was won<br />

by St Albans School pupil Harry<br />

Woodhouse in 7min 41sec. In<br />

second was Ethan Cox (West<br />

Spreydon School) in 7min 46sec.<br />

Finn Bruwer (Tai Tapu School)<br />

rounded out the top three just<br />

1sec behind Ethan.<br />

The year 5 girls race went to<br />

Fendalton Open Air School’s<br />

Tessa De Wit in 8min 4sec.<br />

In second was Sophie Lampe<br />

(Hinds School) with a time of<br />

8min 10sec. Miriam Lemon<br />

(Sumner School) finished third<br />

in 8min 17sec.<br />

Amelia Henstock (Waimairi<br />

School) won the year 6 girls race<br />

in 7min 32sec. Second belonged<br />

to Francheska Sims (Marshland<br />

School) in 7min 39sec. Sasha<br />

McIntyre (St Andrew’s College<br />

Preparatory School) finished<br />

third in 7min 42sec.<br />

In the year 6 boys race,<br />

Harrison Staunton (Somerfield<br />

School) was first to cross the line<br />

in 7min 10sec.<br />

Behind him was Otto<br />

Church (St Albans School)<br />

in 7min 17sec and Silas Jones<br />

(Hillview Christian School) in<br />

7min 27sec.<br />

Fenella Chittock (Opawa<br />

School) won the year 7 girls<br />

race in 11min 40sec. Second<br />

was Ava Rattray (Casebrook<br />

Intermediate) in 11min 50sec.<br />

She narrowly pipped Charlotte<br />

Chiles (Selwyn House School)<br />

on the line, who also finished in<br />

11min 50sec.<br />

In the year 7 boys race,<br />

Edward Connolly (St<br />

Andrew’s College Preparatory<br />

School) won in 11min 11sec.<br />

Second went to Finn Pearson<br />

(Loburn School) in 11min 15sec,<br />

with Cooper Wightman (Lincoln<br />

Primary School) third in 11min<br />

17sec.<br />

The year 8 girls title<br />

went to Elspeth McGuinness<br />

(Governors Bay School). She won<br />

in 11min 24sec, ahead of Lucy<br />

Vance (Cathedral Grammer<br />

School) in second with a time of<br />

11min 35sec. Third went to Kate<br />

Currie (Heaton Intermediate).<br />

Angus Sevier (Christchurch<br />

South Intermediate) won the<br />

year 8 boys race in a dominant<br />

time of 10min 32sec. Second<br />

went to Elliot Graves (Hillview<br />

Christian School) in 11min.<br />

Finn Woodhouse (Cobham<br />

Intermediate) was third in 11min<br />

4sec.<br />
