“Service is part of every nurse’s role to advance our
profession and improve health for all!”
NNA’s 2019 Election brought forth some exceptional candidates. The pool of
nurse candidates was highly qualified, experienced with the issues facing frontline
nursing, and passionate about our discipline. These candidates represented the
vast geography of our state, as well as professional experiences from frontline
nursing to academic roles. All were visionaries, and all were willing to serve! NNA
is grateful to have had them willing to step forward to carry out our mission.

NNA as an organization has been growing in our presence at the legislature and in day-to-day activities that
advocate for nurses and citizens across the Silver State. NNA’s mission is to “advance and uphold excellence,
integrity, and autonomy in the practice of nursing, and to advocate for accessible, quality health care for all.” Serving
on an NNA board allows a nurse to actively play a part in providing input, give recommendations, and lead
activities that impact nursing practice and health care.
This year’s “Committee on Nominations” were provided the opportunity to create a structure for future
candidacy and elections that would shape the future of our organization.
Some highlights of this year’s Nominations Committee:
• The “Policy & Procedure for Nominations” & “"Call to Serve" were updated for use by future
committees.
• Advertisements were sent out to all NNA Members encouraging them to be a candidate. The ads
featured State Director Peggy Lee "Board Service is Rewarding" and former NNA President Dave Tyrell
"Be at the table - not on the menu.”
• Emails were sent out to each expiring NNA Board member thanking them for their service and having
them consider reapplying as candidates.
• Emails of the “Call to Serve” were sent out to all of Nevada's schools of nursing.
• Periodic posts about nominations were displayed on NNA’s Facebook page.
• Emails were sent to all directors of nursing for northern Nevada hospitals,
STEP FORWARD & SERVE
and the cities of Lovelock, Winnemucca, Fallon, and Gardnerville to inform
them of the opportunity for service with NNA.
• Overall informal efforts were made by NNA Board members to share the
opportunity to serve.
For 2020 - please consider stepping forward and run as a candidate for a board
position – YOU can make a difference for nursing and healthcare in Nevada!
